For the 2nd time a window lock counterpart (contracierre) on one of our sliding windows has broken and the window cannot be locked. I am furious that there is apparently no simple way to replace the broken part in the window frame. You can buy them in any Ferreteria, but there's apparently no easy way to replace them in the window frame. It appears that there is no choice but to force the replacement into the guide rail by brute force, i.e. using tools to bend the guide rail wide enough to slip the part in and then to bend the warped parts of the rail back into shape, in the process messing up the paint work. Seems ridiculous to me, that there is no easy or other neat way to do this, or am I wrong? Am I overlooking something? I have attached a photo of the locking part.

Normally these sliding windows lift out.... Grip the inside window by the sides and lift vertically then pull it out of the frame towards you.Repeat with the outside window. Good luck.Alexander.

Yes I remember our door lock got Brok too, years and years ago,my neighbour came over just got his hands on both sides of the window and pushed it up and off in 2 seconds just like taking a jacket out of a wardrobe that’s hooked on,he twizzeld about with little bits of metal and got it locking again, but this was a long time ago,he said it happens to these types of windows every day,far better just waiting till you can afford to replace it,and use window shutter jams in the mean time, no one will get passed them,or at least not very easily or quietly, hope this helps out.

Hi Alexander, thanks for your suggestion, but removing the sliding window does create access to the guide rail to which the lock counter part is fixed. There should have been an opening for the part to be slotted into the rail, but there isn’t.
