I do not know whether this topic has already been covered. I recently booked a return flight to England on 5th January next year.  Being reasonably confident that the expiry date of my Passport(27th July 2024) would allow me to use it and renew it when I returned, I read Ryanair's rules and regulations. It appears that you will be refused travel if the Passport DATE of renewal is less than 10 years prior to your travel date(my renewal date was November 2013).I immediately went to renew and was informed that the actual date is 10 years plus 3 months. To put it into a nutshell, my passport became illegal in August, 2023, despite the date shown of 24/7/2024. All this thanks to Brexit. Hope that this makes sense.

Since 2018, passports can only be valid for 10 years from the date of issue and this is adhered to by EU countries. If you renewed early, you used to have the extra months added to the 10 years but that is no longer the case.

You also have to have 3 months still to run on leaving the EU and the airlines stick rigidly to this. Quite a few stories of people refused boarding because of the issue date being the date they take 10 years from or not having 3 months left to run.

In othere words your passport cannot be older than 9 years and 9 months at the time of departing UK.

Don't know if it's still happening but at one time RA were incorrectly saying that it was 6 months from your proposed return date meaning that if your passport was more than 9 years and 6 months old at time of departure they would deny you boarding.

No, it can't be more than 9 years and 9 months on leaving Schengen to return to the UK. If you are a Spanish resident then the same as travelling from Ireland, up to the date of expiry which is 10 years after it was issued and you must also show your residency permit. Entering UK from Schengen it just needs to be valid for your stay with no 3 months at the end.

Gov.uk You can cross the UK border using a valid passport which should be valid for the whole time you are in the UK.

Some countries, not EU ones, still ask for 6 months after you leave. Others, like the USA, allow you stay as long as your passport is in date.
