Stan, thank you for your input, but in future unless you have something constructive to offer please refrain from commenting on my posts about something you clearly know nothing about.

Hi all

My name is Nic, my husband Ted and I are thinking of retiring to LA Marina, we will keep property in the UK, but Spain will be our full time residence. I am just wondering if anyone can share some insight on the following please.

Is the cost of living in Spain for electricity, tax, food, fuel, eating out ect on par with the UK more or less expensive.

Does LA Marina get much quieter in the winter months? We don't want to live in a ghost own due to all the ex pats returning to the UK.

Is there a golf course near?

Thank you Jim for your guides, they are very comprehensive and a great help.

Thanks in advance

Nic & Ted

We had a house in La Marina urbanization many years ago. We loved it there, lovely friendly area. However it gets very quite in winter and a car is essential. We sold it and recently bought an apartment in Torrevieja central. We love it there, plenty of walks, sea and very good transport connections. It gets less busy in winter but there’s always loads to do.

We stayed on hols there and other areas in last 2 years before decision on buying apartment there! Hope this helps!

No, my husband won’t be retiring for another few years. We bought a 1 bed, big enough to spend long hols in. I intend spending a few weeks at a time when/if ever we can safely travel again.

Hi Nic, took me while but I got to page 6 .......

Anyway your original post talked about La Marina, Golf, and cost of living (whilst retired)

We retired here, initially for winter months for the first few years, now with residency and living in El Pinet (La Marina village)

We looked hard at the URB and decided to go for the beach/village life and love it ! We like being able to walk to a busy little village and also the beach.

We are both 50/60 and live a healthy active life, there is an abundance of golf, with society's abound and some great

local courses, we are members at Alenda, inland but an excellent course, but there are many all within 30 minutes.

Local groups for cycling, walking, dancing, fishing and even a winter darts/quiz league, and anything that takes your fancy. The villages are all quieter in winter

however the 'snow birds' from all over Europe arrive and the places are all open and busy.

My view on cost of living is overall much cheaper doing a lot more, so for us win/win. The exchange rate is something you keep a close eye on and utilise viewed high's to change money. Tax is something we are currently working on as its our first year, looks a bit more however is totally offset with the cost of living/lifestyle.

Hope this helps.

Regards Rob

Hi Rob

Thank you for the information it's a great help. We love being outdoors and are very active, we are also socially active so it sounds just the ticket as there seems like there's a lot going on.

As for the tax malarchy there's a lot I need to learn so lucky we have a few years for me to study it all 🙄

Thanks for your help 👍

Nic
