S1 and a none lucrative Visa's

 To  apply for & obtain an NLV you have to have one years paid  private healthcare for each family member. After one year of living here and if you are receiving a UK pension, you can  join the spanish healthcare system via a S1 form obtained from UK.

That's not right.

Despite what UK consular sites may say you cannot use an S1 for a visa application however once you have your residence (TIE) you can register an S1 with INSS and join the state health system.

That means in the first year you will be double covered but the advantage of the S1 route is that you qualify for subsidised medicines whilst with private cover you pay the full cost.

So covered you can choose to use either but there is no crossover, i.e. you can't go private for a diagnosis then expect to get subsidised medicines through the state system.

Initially, it was not possible to use an S1 for NLV visa applications; however, a member of this forum advised a couple of months ago that they had been able to do so.  Hopefully, they'll see your post and explain their experience - the consulate at Manchester appears to be much more helpful than London, which seems to vary the requirements as it suits them.  It's also worth noting that the Spanish embassy and all 3 consulates in the UK started an indefinite strike with effect from yesterday, 14 March, so you wont get a quick response from any of them for the foreseeable.
