Hi
We moved here in 2012. We used a currency company called Foreign Currency Direct. Excellent service and can transfer large and small sums i.e. Monthly pension etc.

There are broadly three ways to transfer and exchange money for onward transmission:
1. Banks - expensive and less and less people use them
2. Currency exchange firms - there are dozens of them and you deal with a person though some do it online. You can take a "forward contract" and guarantee your exchange rate for some period ahead as well as booking a rate and tehn sending your money. That is known as "spot".
3. Online only - these seem to me to be the best. Many match buyers and sellers and cut out the banks completely. My favourite is Currency Fair whom I have used for years. Their web site is easy to navigate and the process completely straight forward. You will find them here: https://www.currencyfair.com/rafland/?channel=R8Z631.
I will declare an interest now - if you send in, convert and send out over £2,000 both I AND you get €30 reward!!
Currency fair is not the only one to do this - many other do as well (and maybe pay more) but I like Currency Fair anyway! A.P.
