Hi

Just heard today residencia has been replaced by TIE identity cards?

If so does anyone know more about this change and are there any major sweeping changes/requirements?

Thanks

Darrel

This was only announced yesterday so it's too early to know what it will mean in practice.

The change has been on the cards for a while so of itself not a surprise but I don't think anybody was expecting it quite this soon.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is a revision of the post Dec. 31st. 6 months period which was proposed in order to give time for those arriving up to that date to process their applications.

If that is the case then the door for Brits hoping to get over before Dec. 31st. may be in danger of slamming shut sooner than they have planned for.

Thanks for that but it seems something new has been put in place but not even the Spanish politicos know what changes they will implement?

They're working on that right now. There will be lots of meetings, committees, sub committees and working parties. The committees will instruct the sub committees. The sub committees will report back to the committees but not before the working parties recommendations have been considered and amended by both. A report will be presented, discussed, objected to, amended then agreed. A Boletin will be issued and we will then know which hoops to jump through once Jim has decoded it!

All clear? 😁

This post that was quoted has been deleted.

I'm sure Ray will clarify for you but my understanding is that the answer to your question is no. It will require an application, an acceptance, and of course as you know already (!) any application has a fee 😁

This TIE thing raises some questions in my mind.

My wife and I gained Residency in Q3 2018. We then took the initiative to sort out our income tax in Spain .... nobody pushed us to do it.

So there may be Brits here in Spain who have Residency, but don't report their income to Spain's tax authorities either because (a) they are in Spain for less than 183 days per year, (b) because they gained their Residency after December 2018 and haven't reconciled their income taxes yet, or (c) because they are naughty.

Can type (a) have a TIE ?

Will type (b) have to sort out their tax to get a TIE ?

What happens to type (c) ?

Any views ?
