Hi everyone,

I have a friend who has laminated very good copies of his and his wife's TIE cards which he carries around with him rather than the originals which he keeps safe in the house. Unfortunately he cannot remember where he got them done.

My questions are:

a:  Are they allowed

b:  Suggestions on where or who offers this service

Thanks in advance

Baz

You can go to the guardia civil and they give you legally stamped copies to carry around instead of originals. I forget the proper term they use for it but if you speak Spanish or take a translator with you and ask. It takes a few moments to do

I am not aware of any obligation to carry your TIE therefore it follows that it matters not whether you do choose to carry the original or a photocopy.

It seems to be a little known fact that ALL foreigners, be they resident/TIE holders or not, are still legally required to carry their passports.

Some police say you legally must but I worked with a couple of local and they said it's not true it's just expected for people to carry it. I have been stopped without mine and they weren't bothered, a few simple questions and off I went. If can give you a producer like they do in the UK, where you go into the station within a few days and show it to them

It is no longer mandatory to carry photo ID with you except the driving licence when in a car. However, it is recommended that you carry something that proves your identity although, in the 20 years we've been coming here I've only ever been asked at the airport.

For non drivers, a TIE would be good but if you only have the green residency card still then you'd need a passport as the residency card isn't valid for ID.

I carry my TIE but wouldn't it be better to just photo it on your phone if you have one?
