I have a property in monforte del cid, I don’t have a mortgage to worry about though I work in U.K. I don’t have an income in Spain. Could I still be a resident? If I had a job could I become a permanent resident? Thanks

You have to actually live in Spain to apply for residency. If you apply for residency you will need to prove that you have a regular income which will satisfy the local authorities that you won't become a burden on the state. You will need to show you have full healthcare which is paid for a full year. Etc. Etc. Etc.

You cannot be a permanent resident until you have lived in Spain (Legally) for a full 5 years.

Realistically time for gaining residency in Spain is rapidly running out, if not already  run out, and if you can't do it before Dec 31st then to come to Spain with the intention of working after that will be a completely different proposition.

Critically you will have to, in advance, apply for a working visa for which you will need to show either an intent to start up a business, including your business plan and proof of the financial resources to execute it, or a confirmed job offer from a potential employer.

For that the employer in turn will need to show that the job you are coming to do cannot be done by a Spanish citizen so that means it would have to be something highly specialised or unique. Would that describe your skill set?

A 3rd. option is the so called (Golden Visa) which is available to those with at least €500,000 in cash to buy a property outright, or I believe to invest in a Spanish business.

Taking a guess that you might not have a spare €500,000 laying around I will not elaborate!

Hi thanks, no I don’t have that much money kicking around, though I do own my property outright with no mortgage.  Yeah sound to be difficult I suppose I’ll have to take it day by day and see how it goes. :-(

Owning a property in Spain does not give you any extra rights to gaining residency.
