So why has Portugal got a differrent set of rules?

Regards

Pauline

Hi,

what rules have Portugal got that are different to Spain's? The 90/180 day rule is the same Schengen wide as far as I can tell.

You are still subject to the 90 day rule.

Hi, I wonder why you left if you lived here.

You could have become legal residents here, and the process was very easy back then.

What a pity.

Cheers, J

Portugal has a 'Golden' visa and a D7 retirement visa which is roughly analogous with the NLV but with less demanding financial requirements.

Ok thank you. So nothing to do with the 90/180 rules then which is what the thread is about. I am aware of the variety of different visas available in Portugal and Spain, which are broadly similar, but wondered if I'd missed something on the 90/180 rules.

Other 3rd country nationals accept 90/180 days for what it is, the Schengen rule, and live with it.
Brits would do well to follow suit because for as much as they protest the fact is that it's not going to change anytime soon.

Well this thread was started off by comment's from a Spanish minister  talking about changing the rules, but I'd agree it is it unlikely to change soon. I don't see what harm is done by talking about it though.
