How can I collect a Tax Certificate in person?
Helpful member
Hoping someone can kindly help us out here.
We used a reputable Tax Accountant in Orihuela Costa, following a recommendation, for our first tax return this year.
He knew it was our first time and that we were totally in his hands. We supplied him with all the information and documentation in time for our return to be submitted.
We were told to call him in September to pick up our Tax Certificates from him, which we desperately need to claim pax tax that has been double paid to HMRC.
After a number of emails and visits, we finally received notification from him that they had rejected it as they needed more documents - 12m stamped statements from our Spanish Bank, utility bills, etc. The bank were very surprised - though still charged us €72 between our 2 accounts! Also, the address the Tax Office had for us was incorrect.
Now, we are being told that we have to pay the accountant another €50 for him to supply the additional information. He is saying the Tax Office are sending the Certificates directly to us, but we have a sneaky feeling he is withholding the additional information from them until we pay the ransom money.
Does anyone know how we can query this directly with the Tax Office to check if they have the certificates and if we can collect them in person please?
We feel as though we are being taken for a ride! Although I speak a little Spanish, I am fearful of dealing with any official offices, so would appreciate any advice and information before I embark on this venture please. Many thanks
