Did your new Spanish licence include all your category entitlements, as that some people have had to redress this issue involving vehicles weights and measures, including towing.

Yes, everything was correct and matched my UK licence.

My wife and I are off to Rojales with getlegalinspan next Thursday for the medical. I had hoped to exchange our  licenses (no medical) as we have nearly 10 years left on them but it seems we need to apply for a Spanish one instead due to the fact that on the back of mine the expiry dates go out to 2039. I don't know other than to go with what the gestor suggests and just want to get it done tbh.

I was invited by getlegal to change my licence as they had just helped me with my residency, I was informed that becoming a resident in Spain it was a requirement to do so, I was taken also to a psicotecnico in Rojales, To change/exchange your licence you are required to take and pass a medical test, eyes/hearing/blood pressure and ask about any medication you may take, there is also a coordination test, you should inform getlegal at the time of your visit about your concerns re 10 years and perhaps a straight forward exchange can be done? Also since my appointment and in my last post on this thread I have read about people not receiving their full category entitlements as stated on the back of their licence, so it may be worth asking the question. You will be asked to handover your passport to Uma as she will need this for the trafico appointment on your behalf, if your not agreeable to this then you will have to accompany her to Elche, my passport was handed back to me within 24 hours, It is always worth taking with you your Padron, i.d, driving licence, N.I.E, T.I.E, Photo`s and copies of all, as these may be necessary to establish your correct name and address for use of the driving licence, the gentleman who does the coordination test  take`s a photo of you before you start the test. I think I have covered my experience.

All correct except the comments about the medical. If you are renewing your licence for the full ten years a medical is required. If you are exchanging your licence for a Spanish licence the remaining period on your UK licence is transferred to your new Spanish licence and no medical is required.

I luckily had eight and a half years left on mine so avoided the cost of the medical and went for the exchange.

Well hopefully Lancelot will read your post, as he states he has nearly 10 years left on his and just do a straight forward exchange, I wonder what getlegalinspain will advise? (Lancelot let us know please) all the best my friend and thank you again for that information.

Thank you so much to everyone that has replied to my post. I really, really appreciate all the information I have been given. I think I’m going to contact getlegalinspain. I will let everyone now how we get on for other people asking the same questions. Thanks again everyone 👍

we've renewed our uk licenses in march this year so more or less 10 years left but when I asked about exchanging because I don't hit 70 until 2039 they advised that an exchange wasn't possible and I should go for an application rather than exchange. I have no problem with this in principle as I can't challenge it based on my knowledge of the system.

on the front of the license expiry is shown as 23.03.30

on the back under 11. it says 23.06.39

On the back under 11 it says 23.06.39, that's when you reach the age of 70 years and in the UK that's when you will need a medical.

On the front of the licence expiry is shown as 23.03.30, that's correct, if you were still living in the UK you would just have to renew it.

So it makes your age now 51, if I am correct.
