That's interesting.

We keep a car in the UK. It is insured with Admiral. When we obtained Spanish Residency, and then Spanish driving licences, we phoned Admiral to explain things. They issued a policy variation which noted the change of licence; other than that, nothing to do.

There is another member of this forum who insured a car with Admiral, and was knocked back.

So maybe it is a case of who you speak to on the day. Call Centre Agents get targeted on call clearance times as well as business value; so maybe some agents don't think doing something complicated is worth it !

I will look for & pm you the agent's name at the Bristol A-Plan office. They were helpful there.

Hey Kevin, I dealt with the Bristol office , not sure if it is the only office. The guy I dealt with for the past 3 years was called Christopher Lorna and he was excellent. The email I got today didn’t even have a name on. A ploy I guess!!

Apologies .. correction ..... I've checked back to the old policy documents ...

Our home in the UK is a flat.

The buildings insurance is covered by the head landlord, and paid for from the service charge.

So our "holiday home insurance" was for contents only (and our non-resident landlords insurance is for contents only, plus landlord's liability cover).

Hi I am resident in Spain and own a house in the uk that I rent out. My British Landlord insurers refused to continue insuring after Brexit and directed me to their counterparts who have taken on my insurance needs and with a bit of bartering I managed to get the price down to less than I was paying with the British insurance company! Result.
give them a try…Intasure.com  telephone 0345 111 0680

They are a Swedish company, very helpful and speak perfect English. As I say I have Landlord insurance but it’s worth asking if they do private, or holiday home.

Not that any of this applies to me, but it might in the future 👍.......

Isn’t this so frustrating. As with a great many things, what was ok December 2020 seem to have mysteriously become problematic by January 2021.

In the instance if issuing/renewing what amounts to a piece of paper, by a U.K. company, for a U.K. house/car, what’s changed? If, say, it was a car that was now going to be moved outside the U.K., I could understand that. But a property??

If there are any members who work/worked in this area, maybe the could shed some light? 🤪🥂

We have a second home in the UK and our home and contents insurance has just come up for renewal. However, the insurance company we are with have just told us they can no longer do it because of the various rulings of Brexit. No way can we not insure the house! Has anyone else come up against any...

...thing like this and how have you resolved it?

I am non resident with 2nd home in Spain and after a total ransacking in 2008 and being refused the claim by Caixa banks insurance I went to Towergate insurance to insure as holiday home. They have paid out twice since without problem but last year said they couldn't continue because of Brexit! They told me to contact Staysure instead which I did and they accepted so with them now. I know the circumstance is differrent, you being Spanish resident with UK holiday home but worth a phone call to see if they can offer something.
