I really don't understand all the complaints about electricity prices. We pay 9% more than a friend in the UK, which I don't regard as a lot more, especially since we use less electricity here.
I've yet to see anyone complaining about how ridiculously cheap our council tax is compared to the UK.
Ley me just weigh in with my understanding of costs in Spain I have purchased a 2 bed quad bungalow and to run this property cost approx. 150 euros per month at home I have a 4 bedroom bungalow that cost a bloody fortune to run. I must admit everyone can cherry pick costs but if you look at the whole picture Spain is a reasonable priced place to purchase so ok the electric is expensive but don't forget it is not too cheap in England Just saying

Why do you keep comparing everything to England. Have I said England's electricity is cheap. No. It is my opinion and others and that electricity in Spain is expensive.

Hi all
I have only been here 6 months and am staggered at the price of electricity.

It is criminal what they charge. More frightening is an article I read in today's paper saying they are raising the price again. Does no one in Spain complain. It's as if they can do exactly what they want.
Hi
Have just read through this one and all the replies. We only can get out to our place relatively infrequently at the moment, so although the cost of electric is not that much of an issue now, we do intend to be out for longer periods as soon as possible. So I for one would be keen to see how you get on, is it as easy to switch in Spain as the UK? and what other suppliers are there? Doesn't matter where you are, you do not want to pay more than you have to. Can it be done on the web as in the UK?
Anyway please keep us posted, it may help others like us.
Thanks

Cathie, calm down. Living in England or Spain, comparing to England or not, who cares. But people seem to take the time to offer advice and genuine help for nothing and I for one think that deserves some respect. They dont have to.
Perhaps if you only want certain answers you could communicate with yourself?

We went to Iberdrola with a bill and the passport of whoever the bill is registered to, we live here now (a year and a half) so we went on the night rate, which is 14 hours of less than half price electricity, 10 pm till noon winter and 11 pm till 1 pm summer, we have changed a couple of things over to Calor gas like the Hob and water boiler but this was mainly down to the power cutting out if we had too many things running. Overall for a 2 bed bungalow we pay around €900 per year for gas and electric which I think is good. Just watch what appliances you are using as well, some things you might think are cheap to run can be really expensive. Do research in to running costs. Hope this helps.

If you are with Iberdrolla they have a habit of connecting any new Customers to their most expensive Tariff but not tell you of this - it's only when you challenge them over costs that they offer to change your tariff - my monthly bills have almost halved since I changed to a cheap evening tariff...

Hi
we do not live full time in PDC yet, coming out in the school holidays etc. but the major part of our electric bill is all the standing charges etc.
Do these costs also come down on the cheaper tariffs. Trying to improve my Spanish enough to go talk in a shop without resorting to sign language.
Thanks
