Hi

we do not live full time in PDC yet, coming out in the school holidays etc. but the major part of our electric bill is all the standing charges etc.

Do these costs also come down on the cheaper tariffs. Trying to improve my Spanish enough to go talk in a shop without resorting to sign language.

Thanks

Hi There is an Iberdrola office near Zenia Boulavard that was the one we used, the girl spoke very good English and did everything there and then, just take the passport of the person named on the bill. We are on the 3.45 kw contract capacity (this is the lower one) I have just looked at a bill and out of our Dec/ Jan 30 day bill of €83.22 ..€30 of it was for contract capacity, taxes and all charges for supply and meter etc  I think these charges are higher if you are on a higher kw contract capacity, so even if you are not over here your bill will be around or over €30 per month. If you apply for a tariff the day night rate 14 hours are charged at €0.06 kwh and the normal 10 hours day rate charged at €0,14. but there are different tariffs, just pick one that suits you. Hope this helps.

Hi all

I have only been here 6 months and am staggered at the price of electricity.

It is criminal what they charge. More frightening is an article I read in today's paper saying they are raising the price again. Does no one in Spain complain. It's as if they can do exactly what they want.

Hi, its me again we have only had our place for approx. 6 months having changed to gas hob and boiler (hot water only). we took our bill and id N.I.E into a shop in Pilar de la Horadada called Milner Enrique at the back of the shop there is a counter with English speaking very helpful people who will help you with your bill ,the shop is on your wright if you are driving in off the N-332 past Carefour  and Aldi on the left Milner Enrique is the only Green shop on the wright ,might I suggest you  work out how much power you will need and get it down as low as poss as this is relevant to your charges . And yes I agree the Spanish charge like a raging Bull as nice as they are .   Hope this is helpful best of luck johnny

Theres nothing for you to understand. If you don't agree. Up to you but your opinion isn't the same as ours. If we want to complain about anything it's up to us. I and others personally think it's very expensive. I've notice you comment on everything and take sides with Spain because you've ...

...probably been here a long time. Since I've come here I've met so many smug expats who love to put us newbys in our place because you all know so much more. Well this Newby is not interested.

Well said ! Your not an official ambassador to the Queen luv ! Calm down its about helping each other not egos !

Our Solicitor sorted out our utilities but that was just to get them in our name as over here it is a bit more complicated getting the name changed over, but they don't look for the right low Tariff for you, Iberdrola like any company will put you on the best Tariff for "them"  that is why you will have to go into the office when it is all in your name and ask about lower cost electricity..

I use Iberdrola and have the night tariff so in winter 22.00 to 12.00 noon and summer 23.00 to 13.00 and do my washing around those times. The lady in La Zenia branch speaks English and always helps me. She suggests changing to day rare in summer so now I will.

I think depending on what money comes in the household can determine expensive or not. No point comparing prices to UK as you would need to compare all prices wages etc to get a fair comparison.

I just look at what comes in and what goes out. Also researching companies and prices helps. Sometimes just saying you will take your business elsewhere can help. If they don't budge then go elsewhere.

Sounds like uk economy 7 which is only any use if using majority of electric in early hours eg storage heaters

There is a catch though the day tariff is at a higher than normal rate

Don't know if that applies in Spain

It's a similar setup to the UK Economy 7, except that here you get 14 hours at the cheap rate. Although the peak tariff is higher than the single tariff price, it's not significantly so. It saves us more than 20% of what it would be on the single tariff.

With a smart meter you effectively get the same as the night and day tariff, because those are the two rates and hours that smart meter billing uses; the only real difference is that the power charge is a bit lower with a smart meter.

There's no guarantee that the billing basis will remain the same, because a smart meter enables Iberdrola to apply a separate rate for every hour of the day if they wish to do so.

Not very nice, is it. Calling people trying to help smug. If you don't like a comment stop reading it. You are talking you know it all, I am looking forward to you answering questions. I agree that the price is to high here, where I come from it is cheaper despite the price in my country is more than 50% tax. The base price should be about the same with world energy prices.

Btw I found a big chip in the street this morning, could it be the one that fel of your shoulder?
