Hilary - I've sent you a PM with my email address. Send me some consecutive bills and I'll try to make sense of them.

Hi Jim,

Wondering if you can help us. We moved to Villamartin last week and have checked our electricity online with Iberdrola and they have calculated 46 euros for just one week of electricity. We don't have ac in the house or a cooker or tv connected yet. AC is being installed tomorrow. Surely this can't be right. Unfortunately our bills are all in Spanish and I wouldnt have a clue where to go to speak to someone about this.

Regards

Helen

Whilst you are at the office sign up for the Plan de Noche [night time lower priced electric].   It is different timing in the summer and winter but you get cheaper electric from 11pm until 12noon next day or thereabouts, not sure of the timing on this one.   It has made an enormous difference to our electric bills.

Nicola's correct that it's easiest for a first time change of contract to go to one of the Iberdrola agents, and I agree with Andrea that plan noche is best for anyone living here.

Whilst there, get them to change your bills to English.

€46 for a week sounds far too much from what you say. I've just looked, and Iberdrola say current consumption from the last bill on August 9th to 18th is €34.73. That's on plan noche with one of the aircons running nearly all the time.

Iberdrolla have an online page where you can contact them or change your tariff!

I am new to this site and will be moving out permanently at the end of Jan.  In this thread I see a few references to solar heated water. Can anyone provide more information. Set up costs and reputable company for install. Moving to Calpe region. By the way this forum has been so useful for me. Keep up the good work. Really appreciated

I can't actually recommend this company as I've not used them myself, but a friend has:

When we came to Spain 13 years ago, we were keen to instal solar heating for the water in our hairdressing salon. We did an awful lot of research and the cheapest quote which involved my husband doing some of the work was around 10,000€. As we intended to retire in 10 years, it was not economically viable. Also at the time the government were giving out grants, but you had to apply after you had had the solar installed with a copy of the invoice etc, but often there was no money left in the budget, so you couldn’t guarantee to get the grant and you had already paid out for the work. So needless to say, we didn’t bother. Things may have changed now

Hi Angus. I can’t remember the company we used, but I do remember that it cost 1.900€ and that was for two sola panels and a 260Ltr water tank. This was 13 years ago.  We have three bathroom in our villa. When we have visitors that’s more than enough for everyone to shower (6 people). Hope your able to find someone to do the job 😎
