Electricity prices have gone up for some customers but our bills have reduced thanks to the cut in IVA and the plan we are on with Iberdrola. We have 3 bedrooms, electric oven and waterheater and a pool and are on the 8 hour plan which suits our usage. Friends are on day and night plan and their ...

...bills have also reduced.
Take a look at iberdrola.es and choose the English option. It will give you information re prices locked in for 5 years.
The standing charge varies by the amount of potencia you have. Most people have 5,75KW which means you can draw 5.75 KW maximum power at any one time. If you attempt to draw more the system should trip out. Our friends have 5.75 and rarely trip the system. You can enquire about potencia if you find a property. Most estate agents ask for a copy of sellers bills for electric and water so you can ask to see those. A private sale should also let you see previous bills.
Thanks Jay,
How does that reflect in your billing per month? Are you resident all year round?

We have a bundle - 600 mb (symmetrical) internet, UK TV (with catch-up), a landline, 2 mobile phones.
Total 41 Eu/month. This increases if we use the mobiles to phone non-Spanish numbers.
I'm not particularly tekkie, but the internet is fine for concurrent streaming/working online with multiple devices.

Ok thank you ..I’m not tekkie either but do you have to have the phone to have the internet or can you have the internet on its own without the landline/mobiles?

Yes we are resident and although we have washer, dishwasher, water heater and pool pump on during our cheap tariff we have the aircon on as needed for comfort and we cook by electricity also. We are on the highest potencia of 9.2 (ish) KW our last bill was €68,43 and used 394KW of power. As I said we are the 8 hour plan and have chosen our own cheap periods. We chose 10.00am to 14.00 and 16,00 to 20.00 as that is most convenient for us. The cheap times can be changed at any time. My friend has day and night tariff for the summer and the 8 hour plan in winter as it suits her lifestyle better.
The biggest drawback for non- residents is having to pay the standing charges whilst the house is empty.

Thanks Jay. Is that 68 euro/month?

Yes, the lowest we have ever had. Our highest bill was about €145 and that was in the summer when we had a house full of visitors. Since covid this has not been as high.

Thanks for sharing. For Spanish residents, do you know if there are any electricity, internet, gas, water and any other utility service discounts, reductions or benefits for registered handicapped persons?
