We have just spent 5 weeks in Spain and returned to the UK yesterday. No one on our flight to the UK has their passport stamped and we did not pass through any passport control. The passport was scanned on arrival in the UK but how can we prove that we left Spain for the purpose of our 90 day limit
I’d be interested to know too . Passport was stamped coming in to EU.

Assuming that this isn't a wind up from a new member with only 1 post.....
If your passport was stamped on the way in then, as non Spanish residents, I would be looking to retain my boarding card showing that I'd exited the Schegen area as there is no other way of verifying your exit. (Don't listen to the dross about the super dooper EU computer that calculates all entry & exits from all 27 EU nations. It doesn't exist, yet)

Hello Trotter. I can assure you this question was not “a wind up” albeit from a new member. It was a genuine question. I myself was travelling with him, and I am also a member of this forum and have been for a few years now, having also put questions and answers on here.

How did you manage to avoid the new(ish) automatic barriers where you have to swipe your passport to open the barrier, and then pass through and then pass by the security staff in the booth?

Hi. We never went through any automatic barriers where you have your passport scanned. Having gone through security where luggage is checked our gate was called. We queued and then an airport employee, not a boarder control officer, briefly looked at out passports and boarding pass, scanned the boarding pass and off we went to the plane. Our passports were never scanned by any machine or seen by any broader officer. The plane was full so my circumstances apply to all the passengers on that plane

We flew back 2 weeks ago to Scotland from Alicante, we had our passport stamped by a security person and then we informed by another security person to remove our masks, insert our passports into the verification scanner for the barrier to release to allow us entry into our flight gate departure waiting area. My thoughts are that the scanner machine is only to verify the picture it scans, matches the features on the passport, not to check the days you have spent in Spain but I could be wrong.
Regards
Jim

If you fly from Alicante to the UK your passport is scanned at Border Control gates after security but before the airline gates. There's no way to avoid these gates.
