Hi John, the general advice is, if you're a UK ex pat with assets in both countries, to do two wills, one covering UK assets and one covering Spanish assets. Then neither should fall foul of laws in the other country.

That's what me and my partner did. Our UK assets are uncomplicated, so we did UK wills ourselves using a standard format and having them witnessed properly.

Our Spanish wills were done by a recommended notary in Almoradi. Excellent service, bi lingual documents produced by his British paralegal and the cost was about 70€ per person. You can rest assured that your Spanish will is registered with the correct authorities.

Hi John,

A few years back we used the same notary ( I think) as Hereford Jack. They are based in Almoradi, like he says, and they are Notaría José Juan Pérez Juan.

Excellent service and easy process  :-)

Put plainly, there is no necessity for anyone to travel the length of the Costa Blanca to have a Will drawn up.

Any Notary can perform this.

We used the notary in La Zenia a couple of years ago for oyr Spanish Wills. I emailed them and they sent me simple forms to complete and return and made an appointment . They advised us what ID we needed to take with us. They had an interpreter there. It took about 30 minutes and was about 90€ for a joint will which we took away with us. All straightforward and no solicitor to pay
