Some one posted that if you arrived in spain before 1st jan they will not know what date you arrived so you can stay longer than 90 days they might not know the exact date but if there is no record of you entering spain it’s obvious that you arrived before the checks started hence they will know you arrived before jan 1st so you have to leave by 31st March as it’s simple for them to count back  I don’t know if you get fined if  you leave over the 90 days

But your passport gets scanned on arrival at the airport, so they will know on what day you arrived.

Rather than nobody knows it's probably truer to say that before 1.1. 21 nobody cares and I believe Spain has said that days before that will not be counted but records are there to prove a date of entry if it came to it.

What will happen if you overstay 90 days from 1.1.21 nobody really knows yet but sanctions could range from a simple warning to a fine or even a ban on reentering the Schengen area for set period of time.

That’s what I’m saying they will able to find out even if you enter via France by road as the 90 days start the first day you step foot on European soil so they check Calais entry’s I think a lot of people think the 90 days is just spain but  that is not the case say you spend 30 days in France and then enter spain you can then stay a further 60 days.  30+60=90 the you have to leave

It should be remembered that in all cases if challenged it will always be down to the individual to prove what they claim NOT the authorities to disprove it!
