'lowly' status, in comparison to a Doctor. Not intended as an insult, so sorry if taken that way...

Do you speak Spanish to the receptionist and explain in detail what you are wanting?

This has nothing to do with speaking Spanish, it's down to the amount of Properties that are being built without the infrastructure in place to deal with the extra strain being put on the medical centres and the roads.

Now with the management of the health service in the area going from private to public ownership we now have a perfect storm. Things are only going to get worse.

Of course it's to do with speaking Spanish, Posters sometimes complain about doctors receptionist being rude and unhelpful. Often it's because patients expect receptionists (and Doctors) to communicate in English. Its exactly the same here in Benidorm, if I go to the doctors I take a translator. I agree that the infrastructure needs an overall but you could say that about most countries healthcare system.

Steve.

Hello

It has a lot to do with speaking  some Spanish...If they dont understand you, or you dont understand them how are you going to progress ( without a translator?)

Cheers

It is frustrating to not get the treatment you have been used to in the UK. No other Country has anything like the NHS. I live in Catral and have to use a translater as my Spanish is very limited. I find it easy to ask the translater to tell the doctor of any problem which are dealt with almost immediately. My blood tests are first thing in the morning along with other people. The results come back through the translater again. I either get an appointment with a respective Doctor, Hospital or a prescription sent to the Chemist to collect. I can't complain about any treatment I have had although a lot different from the UK

I honestly think that the Spanish Healthcare services are equal, if not better, than the NHS. When I go to the doctors and need an x-ray it's done the same day and results next day, you don't get that service from the NHS.  Blood tests immediately along with results almost immediately here, not in the UK! Then treatment almost immediately, Instant emergency treatment at my local clinic, no waiting etc, etc.

I agree with what you are saying Seve, I must admit it's a few years since I have used the NHS, I was thinking if you can't speak Spanish. You can't discuss your problems, with a doctor or in a hospital. Your right about getting ex-rays and tests and finding out what is wrong, in fact they won't let you leave hospital untile they know what's wrong

I have just relocated from UK registered with the Spanish health centre in Calpe with

SIP and having the same problems only getting telephone Doctors appointments

Having had Prostate treatment in UK last year not able to get a blood test or repeat prescriptions so far now over 4 months.Very  poor health service.

Still trying for an face to face appointment with a Doctor.
