Love the sound of Harleys and Big V8 engines, hate the sound of the Japanese rice burners ;-)

A  big throbbing motor cycle is an indication of a phallic thimble.

Let's not argue it's Christmas. I hope everyone's day meets their expectations.

Happy Christmas

Seems a bit counter-intuitive.

If the removal of the bung increases the noise level then I would have expected you to remove it "when local", where one might expect you to encounter more pedestrians than when touring. Or am I misinterpreting?

Where I live there are very few pedestrians.  There are very few anything.   Currently living in the Pyrennees and moving to Pinoso in the Spring.

I think I now understand! The "tubo de escape" just blew on my old Seat..... Very noisy! I didn't hit a pedestrian all day!😕👍

Ha Ha Ha.  Noise is a defence against  pedestrians.  Equally valuable when filtering through traffic.  Motorists switching lanes suddenly, no indicators.  Probably if you are not a biker you will have no empathy for us bikers doing such a thing.  We delay others by not a jot.  By so doing we relieve congestion.  (Imagine all those bikes one behind the other in the queue)  Whatever, we are more vulnerable crash barriers are designd to stop cars and slice bikers.  Tarmac is very hard and abrasive on bones and skin.  No risk can be removed, noise alleviates it a little.

Horses for courses.

I understand the reasoning. Me, I prefer to hear what's possibly presenting a threat to me rather than having that warning negated by unnecessary noise. Sadly, when we ride we have to take responsibility for our safety, we can't rely on others.

As an advanced driver instructor,  I understand & take on board all comments, but.....when having a quiet time with glass of 🍷 wine. Sitting outside a bar, I still do not understand the noise, constant need to rev(is it going to stall?), & the time it takes to depart said bar(s). I'm sure bikers, drivers, pedestrians etc understand the word, "nuisance". Happy new year. Keep safe & "sound". V.
