Thank you, Bloody Boris has a lot to answer for.

Actually you dont need a job, you just need money in the bank and medical insurance, plus all the relevant paperwork

dont let Brexit put you off, even after the deadline Spain has said it will welcome Brits, but to be honest, it may prove easier if you are already here

good luck

Sax is a lovely working Spanish town. It has a good local economy that doesn't rely on tourism, so in theory, will be less hard hit by Corona Virus than say Benidorm. The downside for you is that it's mostly Spanish. This means without the language you will both struggle to get work.

If you relocated to an area with more, many more Brits, it's possible you could find enough work as a tree surgeon in the Brit ex-pat community to make a go of it, but in Sax, I'd say it's highly unlikely. I know a few builders/odd job people in the area, and they do OK, but they have good Spanis...

...h so can work for the small Brit ex-pat community in the area, and also the Spanish.

We are (hopefully) buying in Sax next month and have visited there lots. I've little to no Spanish, my wife has more as she's been doing classes for three years, but even she struggles from time to time in the shops and bars, as few locals speak English, or at least use it in their day to day work.

Bottom line: Sax is a proper Spanish town, not a tourist region, so to get on in the place you must have the language.

Are for relocating post Brexit; it's likely the requirements for getting residency will change, but to what no one really knows yet. It's very likely they will change to what is described as commonly as "third-Country" (I think that's the term), but really we've no idea yet. It would be preferable to "get in" before the end of the year (assuming the transition period isn't extended), but if that's not possible it's not the end of the world, or the dream.

I would though suggest a more pressing issue for you is the work. As it is I wouldn't hold out much hope for work in Sax, perhaps better to look at an area with more brits, or learn Spanish, fast.

Well WDG..You say

"Sax is a lovely working Spanish town. It has a good local economy that doesn't rely on tourism, so in theory, will be less hard hit by Corona Virus than say Benidorm"

That really is a wild statement as Benidorm closed down solidly when the coronavirus surfaced and was policed vigorously to enforce the lockdown. Hence Benidorm had far less instances of infection than some of the outlying towns and villages as they were not policed to the same extent. It was a unthought through and ignorant statement.

Finally...Benidorm covers a massive area which only a small area is dedicated to the tourists. Other areas are still predominantly Spanish occupied which if anyone bothered to tour those areas would be quite surprised that they were still in Benidorm.

Calm down Tebo53. Not sure why my comment riled you so, but you've clearly taken it the wrong way. The point was, no Spanish in Sax.... Little chance of work. No Spain in an area with large English residency... Better chance of work.

As for the CV reference. Areas that rely on tourism, especially inward tourism, will be harder hit in the short to mid term that somewhere like Sax. This is just a simple hard fact.

Either you've genuinely misunderstood my comment, or your just angling for an argument. Either way, calm down.

WDG...yes fully calm but everyone including yourself (and not the first time) seem to use Benidorm as a negative when needing a comparison. Madrid and Barcelona have had far more cases of CV and also rely on tourists for their economies. It gets to be a very tiresome comparative.

Well that's total bollox. I love Beni, always have done. I've defended it tonnes on here when some people talk about it based on reputation and hearsay not experience. I've said many times that being close to Beni is one of the key factors in my property hunt. I don't love it for it's madness although that is the pull for many (and fair enough), but it's variety, it's acceptance of anything and anyone, it's contrasts, it's fun, etc. Beni is an amazing place, I've always said this.

In the context of this thread I used it as an example of a place whose local economy is and will be harder hit by CV than a self-sufficient Spanish town in the mountains. I don't see how that is using it as a negative, it's just a reality.
