A charming comment made by someone who couldn’t possibly be my grandson!
Why’s that?

I’m guessing that you were either born in 1969 or are 69 so not possible. Am I right or wrong?

Or his favourite position...😉
lighten up guys.
If you have never been to the area then what you plan to do first, having a recce, sounds like the first step needed.
It might also have been said that if you sell your UK house and become a Spanish tax resident in the same year you might be liable for Capital gains tax in Spain and depending on how long you have been in your current house it could be considerable. Spanish tax year runs from 1st Jan to 31st December.
Good quality health care sounds like a high priority for you and although for the first year of residency you'd need private solutions after a year you should be able to join the convenio especial, which allows access to the Spanish NHS. At your current age this would be around 60 euro a month and would cover your existing conditions whereas the private insurance probably would not.
My wife and I moved out here 5 months ago we are a fair bit below UK state retirement age and sold up in the UK. We bought a small house on a golf course urbanisation near Algorfa - which allows us to have expats around us but also access to Spanish villages and towns fairly nearby. We accelerated our retirement in order to benefit from safeguards wrapped up in the withdrawal agreement.
You perhaps have no such imperative given the UK is now treated as a 3rd country and should perhaps take your time to plan and cost everything out?
The light here is fantastic, blue sky and sunny most of the time - even though this isn't the warmest time of the year here :)

Movin' on👍
I have left forums because of people like this?
We have lived here for 6 years now.
Spanish helpful and friendly.
Cost of living absolutely excellent, and hopefully it will stay that way.
Services good,and inexpensive.
Our community charge in the uk for a tiny house would be around £1.200 or more, here urb yearly fees and Suma yearly fees are 460€.....yes only 460€ per year!
No rubbish all over the streets or overflowing bins?
My only disappointment is missing the family, but if anything happened to my husband,I would never return to the uk.
Give it a go.
Good luck.

Ours was built in the seventies, we are fortunate in that our landlord fitted reverse air conditioning. If we should visit our neighbours on the top floor during the winter, they answer the door wearing dressing gowns on top of their clothes. As others will doubtless point out, Spanis...

...h electricity is expensive. We expect our bill to double in January and February
Yes,bit of a bummer really,the heating situation.
We have a 3 story house, just breeze block built we think too?
Our winter bills per month can be 105 euros, that is for electric cooker, shower, dishwasher, and washing machine.
Unfortunately we only heat the lounge,so the other rooms are very chilly.
The plus side is we are on a night tariff,so in summertime when it's too hot to sleep,we have 2 aircon units running all night, every night at very economical rate.
Have to take the rough with the smooth!
Today,sunny with blue skies.
Spain every time.
hi jonathan, just watch out that you dont end up with nowhere to stay due to restrictions, its a risk to move at this time, that applies to anywhere, seanie

Oh yes , the remainers are still active and not died yet of old age or covid ,
I would give buying in spain a miss for a bit, 2 years , but still holiday there , I don't like torrevieja, to spanish ,lol.
Go down to la zenia or villamartin, it's a lot nicer area , great bars restaurants and beaches, but higher prices to buy.

There’s nothing wrong with Torrevieja but it is a Spanish town after all. It’s really lovely over in La Zenia and Playa Flamenca but built within the last 20 years or so for tourists. Very British and perfect if that Is what you like. The choice is yours ! There are numerous small and large resorts all the way along the coast. One of my particular favourites is Santa Pola, a peninsula almost surrounded by sea. Stunning marina area with a boulevard full of excellent restaurants. It’s only a few kilometres from the airport so very handy. Alicante is on the far side of the airport from Santa Pola so very handy for a day out. (Lovely old city) meanwhile, Santa Pola is Spanish with some very nice shops etc.,
You must come over and hire a car so that you can see for yourself and find the perfect location.
