I have just read some interesting info in the Costa Blanca People about the ITV.
"ITV tests do not have a set due date, but instead, are required to be carried out within a given month. Stickers must be displayed on the windscreen, which show the year the ITV expires, and the months along the top of the sticker will have one punched out - if, for example, this is January, the owner will be required to have passed the test before the end of January, but can do so on any date of that month"
I didn't know that. Can anyone confirm this?

Hi Cheryl. I can only think that whoever wrote that article has got confused about a change that was made a while ago.
The paper counterpart to the ITV sticker has an expiry date on it.
The old system was that you could take a vehicle for an ITV before the expiry date, but the renewal would be from the date it was tested.
The new system is that you can get an ITV up to one month before the expiry date, but the new ITV will be dated from the old expiry date.
For example, the ITV on Margaret's Fiesta had an expiry date of 21/2/20. I took it for its test on 4/2/20, and the new ITV expires 21/2/21.
Thanks Jim, it was part of a bigger article about extra tests being introduced with gaining access to computer systems for information on emissions, ABS braking, assisted steering and airbags on newer cars but I found it interesting as I always thought it had to be done before the date stated on the paper part. As ours is in January, we always have a mini panic in the new year but if we can leave it until January 31st, just in case a problem comes up, this will ease the pressure a bit.

I would suggest you don't leave it until the 31st, if the expiry is in January and the car fails you will not be able to drive it legally, even to a retest as you will be into the next month.

Thanks John, we always take it in a few weeks before it is due for this very reason, it would just save a bit of angst straight after Christmas.

Seems implausible, it means anybody renewing an ITV in the first few days of a month effectively gets 13 months not 12.
Also if correct then you have to question the point what's of having a defined day on the sticker which goes on the cars paperwork?
Sounds more like a misinterpretation of the fairly recent change which allows you to take the test up to a month early but have the new one run for 12 months from the actual expiry date not the date of the test.
The more astute will note that that still means an up to 13 month ITV but the difference is it's because you tested at 11 months so have not actually gained any extra time.
Be interesting to see what others have heard or experienced.
EDIT: got a phone call whilst writing so hadn't seen other replies, good to see Jim's on the same page though.
Hi Movingon, we took ours early this year and the renewal date remained on the original date. Maybe if someone is due an ITV soon they can inquire about the any day of the month part?

That sounds like you may have missed the point Cheryl.
Jim and I are of the same opinion that the writer of that piece has got it wrong and that the ITV expiry date IS on the sticker NOT at the end of the month.
EDIT: another crossed post.!

Cheryl, have you been reading an old newspaper?
The changes you refer to were made in early 2018, and I included them in my guide to the ITV that I posted at the end of May 2018.
You haven't changed my opinion of the free rags!
