to both Garylamata and Villas. Thank you for your replies. I am aware that masks do not protect those who wear them as micro droplets can, and do, enter the human body at unprotected entry points (the eyes). I agree that those who are in an extended contact with potential spreaders need more robu...

...st protection. My point was, would it not be more productive, in terms of infection and the economy as a whole, to allow people out of lockdown, still with social distancing, wearing material face masks than allowing them out without any face masks at all. The material face masks could be washed after each outing, hopefully keeping their usefulness intact. The washing of these material masks would directly be the responsibility of those they were in place to protect. Also unlike the present time the authorities have to wait until some people break social distancing rules before reprimanding them, anyone without a face mask on could be easily observed without waiting for a social distancing problem to occur. Gary as for the authorities having to deal with an unknown quantity in the virus. I'm sure I saw a report that they have identified three different strains of the virus. One very mild (hardly any symptoms) one more aggressive where people are sick but pull through, and the third more virulent that requires most infected people to require ICU treatment. Apparently the strain currently affecting the UK was brought from Singapore.

Yep I agree that lockdown should be lifted with advise to the public. My personal observation is people are more fearful of coming towards me when I am rockin' my mask - so I can't see them suddenly changing. The '3 strains' have been observed only relate to the symptoms. They, thus far, have only found RNA material which is then amplified - this genetic material is a leftover from respiratory inflammation/damage from a possible viral attack but is NOT the actual virus. It can also be caused by flu, lung cancer etc.

As I said they are yet to actually isolate and RNA sequence the virus. Until they do there is no virus officially.
