Bars and restaurants are open with reduced capacity to allow for distancing.

Mask wearing in public spaces is mandatory. You can take your mask off when seated at your bar/ restaurant table.

Curfew midnight to 0.600

Spain has not needed a second lockdown (so far) because the first was long and strict and everyone obeyed it.

Enjoy your stay.

Ps bring your own supply of Scotch Eggs

Surly there have been lockdowns in the north of Spain in the highly populated areas.   Murcia and Valencia gave shut their borders so not a lot different from Britain. As for restaurants and far having reduced numbers, not sure they all follow these rules. In truth, most around here don’t have a problem, as there are no tourists about and the Spanish tend to support Spanish bars/ restaurants. We lunched in Santa Pola last Sunday and quite a few restaurants were packed... not a free table to be had. In U.K., we have to provide our names and contact details when having a meal for contact tracing, not so here.

I get the distinct feeling that expats here seem to believe that we are the people carrying covid19 into the country   Sad to think that you have such a poor opinion of your fellow countrymen.  Does anyone actually know if people who are guilty of this?

To The person who posted the original question ,

At present, you are required to have a covid19 test done within 72 hours of arriving in Spain( certified). Common sense rules apply eg social distancing, hand washing etc.,   Everyone must wear a mask when in a public domain. Once seated in a bar/ restaurant you may remove it but should you need to visit the toilet, you must replace it. Everything is pretty similar to home although most expats have seen the odd news report showing differently and believe we are all behaving in an antisocial way.  Unlike the expats who drink in bars in Spain who post pictures of themselves partying, touching, hugging. Only a few, not everyone but it’s a fact. It happens in Spain and no sign if any policing!  There have been cases Of Covid19 in SAN Fulgencio and I believe the Mayor issued a directive telling people to behave etc.,   No doubt this post will not be received well but there’s no surprise there!

Hopefully, you will be vaccinated shortly so you will feel safer travelling abroad. It doesn’t matter where you live, most people are scared of catching this virus. Happy Christmas.

Hiya Rose; I’m the guy who posted original. It’s amazing how you can unintentionally open a hornets nest. I jokingly wanted to know the difference between bizarre Covid rules in UK & Spain, perhaps I worded it wrong. I’m aware of the rules both sides.

I will tell you this much. The Spanish gov. have made it compulsory for a 72 hour Covid test; two friends of mine have just been quoted £170.00 each to take the test. £340.00 before you start to book flights. I would be lobbying Spanish authorities to overturn this crazy rule or you won’t get a Brit out there

I/we can’t wait to get back out, our hearts are in Spain, not in England, it’s so .....in frustrating.

Ps. I know Covid is not a light hearted subject but daft/crazy rules will be the stand out memory in my mind.

Hope you get back to Spain soon.  Don’t hold your breath waiting for the test to be withdrawn. Why would they do this? Until the quarantine period is lifted at home, they have nothing to lose and all to gain. Of course, Spain is unwittingly providing the U.K. with a lucrative little income charging ridiculous amounts for testing. If they were smart, they would do the test at the airports in Spain upon arrival. Lots of instant tests available.

We have extended our stay 4 times since arriving and upon hearing that the UK have introduced a 5 day quarantine plus test fir people arriving after 15th Dec.  Rather than sit at home for 2 weeks, I changed our flights to 16/12:20. Paid Ryanair a further €82 but felt it was worthwhile. Then discovered that NI are not included, only England. Flights now rebooked to return on 9/12/20 so that we can quarantine in time for Christmas. Such a lot of utter confusion. Should be free to visit the family for a Christmas holiday.

Good gracious me, what sort of remark is that? Would you be kind enough to explain as I cannot begin to understand what you are alluding to.
Thank you.

Unless you have residency you will not be able to come back to Spain yet.  The Spanish put this in place for a period of 6 months from 23 November.  This obviously could change along with the need for all citizens and residents having a PCR tests before arriving.

Are you correct in your statement? Yes, the Spanish require people travelling into Spain from the U.K. and other countries to have a certificate showing that they have been tested for covid 19 and do not have it, but no mention of residents only being permitted to enter the country. There are numerous people planning to come here for Christmas and the New Year who aren’t residents of Spain.

Would you prefer that only residents should be permitted into the country?

I have read somewhere that between 2012 & 2019 the tourism sector contributed 178 billion euros to Spain’s GDP and helped employ nearly 3 million people. The three main countries were Britain, France & Germany. You may want to give some thought to that fact. We’re hoping to move out permanently in a year or so and it would be nice if the country wasn’t facing economic catastrophe.

Hey...don’t shoot the messenger.  I am trying to be helpful not making the rules but by all means don’t listen to me.  Look it up for yourself.
