If your getting your yearly pension rises then obviously the Gov.U.K. are not aware your living abroad, maybe you should inform them because my neighbour when found out had to pay all the extra money back.Still no one has explained to either Ray or me what this staggering amount of €28,000 is fo...

...r when you have to covered yourself with private health care, what is it for?

Maybe your neighbor retired to another country before coming to Spain. There are countries around the world inc South Africa and Australia where the pension is frozen. In Spain it’s not frozen.......yet.Seems unfair to me if you paid in.The €28,000 is what’s required by Spanish government to show you can pay your way. This was brought in post brexit for Brits wanting to live in Spain and is part of NLV requirements.

You are very mistaken, everyone in the UK,  UK government officials and HMRC know I've lived here for 8 years. I informed HMRC about paying my taxes in Spain under the dual tax agreement.

Spain is a country where pension rises are applicable,  please get your facts right!!

The 28,000 is to prove that you can afford to live in Spain without becoming a burden on the state......

I think with you Steve we have to make everything clear. The benefit I am talking about is called Pension Credit,it’s given to people that are only on a state pension because the U.K. government knows that because the pension is so low this benefit is only paid to top your state pension up,but while receiving this benefit you are only allowed outside of the U.K. for 28 days,if you are caught you have to pay it back. But I’m still waiting for anyone to tell why Spain wants all this money to live in what a lot call a cheap country. When the U.K. left the EU it ask the people that wanted to stay and live there, 5.5 million non Brits signed up,mainly Spanish & French that didn’t cost them any money to become residents,so my question is,if anyone out knows, why so much to come here?

To make it clear to you......

You didn't mention  "pension credit" at any time in any of your posts!!! You said UK pension which I replied to......

Get all your facts right and re-read your own posts before coming on the forum trying to belittle people.

I said PENSION which I would have thought a person that knows so  much would know about all PENSIONS. When people, which are your fellow countrymen, which you seem to have a problem with over leaving the EU,ask for help it’s best to give them all the fact of the good and bad points of moving into Europe. We Thais respect every one and it’s shameful to read some of the comments on here.

I am an over 70 Pensioner asking for Advice, Information, and constructive opinions as to my chances of

being able to live in the Costa Brava area of Spain.  My desire to emigrate to Spain has increased since the

passing of my wife in June 2021. As many people know and accept you can't live on memories and you

must get on with life. I know this is a bold step but being prepared for it, with the Forum's help I will achieve it,

and advice and Information of all kinds is essential to ensure I don't fail on my quest.

When I reached pensionable age of 65, I embarked on a different journey. My goal was, (as a pensioner), was

to go trekking in the Himalayas, up in the Annapurna Sanctuary.  Needless to say, I achieved it.

I am now 82 and would like to retire to the Alicante region. I am seeking an area that is mainly British ex- pat but still maintains

the influence of traditional Spain, I would be looking for a apartment to rent on a long term basis with at least 2 bedrooms, fairly

close to beach with facilities. The rent I am willing to pay would depend on the quality of the property. Needles to say a garage

would be a necessity and preferably within the area.

Any assistance and advice to begin a new chapter in my already adventurous life, will be gratefully received.

Thank you

Take a look at Torre de la Horadada, it is well worth considering. Very good British/ Spanish mix, it’s flat so easy to get around and it’s on the seaside! All facilities are there, medical supermarket etc.

Unlike yourself, probably, I did not ever claim pension credit, so I wouldn't know anything about it. I don't know anyone that did. My UK government pension is very good as I paid extra into it. When you post on a forum you need to explain fully what you are talking about and not expect other poster to guess!! It's either UK pension or pension credit....Two different things...

I don’t know if you remember the post we had a few weeks ago when I told you my father and mother worked at the Thai Embassy In Madrid, we never got involved financially with English pensions but because of helping Thais with English husbands we had to keep up with the rules of all countries. Maybe you subscribed to a private pension which a lot of people we had dealings with were uneasy with because of paying tax every week they received it,but for pensioners on a state pension they cannot achieve the sums that Spain needs for their residency. So do you know why or what this €28,000 is for?

Yes I remember our other conversation. For your information I get uk government pension and private pensions. The UK government pension alone is not enough to satisfy the income requirements.

I have explained earlier that the 28,000 for a single person (sustainable income) is to prove they can live to a satisfactory standard in Spain without becoming a burden on the state.

In your opinion how much should it be?

I would think with our experience from the Embassy, the same as moving to the U.K. You buy a house pay for gas, water and electric, spend money in the shops and supermarkets, run a car or two,pay tax and NI if your working,so it’s nothing to move there which probably explains why the U.K. is number 6 as the richest countries on the planet with more people from Europe wanting to move there for work because of the high salaries they pay.
