Thanks for that link which I've read ,its apparent that many people were infected in hospitals where they should have been safe ,I sincerely hope that the hospitals have identified the problems and found solutions  ,coming to track and trace I feel the system should have been handled at loca...

...l level where I think more people would have bought into it as opposed to private enterprise who had no experience of local areas until this is remedied  I can only see lengthier lockdown and more reliance on the vaccination programme  ,have already heard on news programme this evening  talking of lesser restrictions being in place next winter hardly a vote of confidence

Yes. i think next Christmas if we are lucky.  Just heard on STV news that the New African variant may be resistant to the vaccine !

Hi Rose,

I don't know what makes you think Spain doesn't share important information with its citizens?  For example, details of Spain's Covid-19 vaccination programme are available on the government website, along with daily updates on vaccination numbers:

https://www.vacunacovid.gob.es/?s=03

Kind regards,

Kim

Are you seriously suggesting Johnson has handled it well .The new cases today just in England were 57,874 , in Spain they were 4, 420 and in France they were 4,022 .

There were 80,000 in the whole of the UK on December 31 st. And numbers have gone up by 42%.

We need to thank our lucky stars that the population in Spain and France keep to the rules and guidelines and that their governments react quickly  and ahead of the curve , unlike Johnson who is two steps behind and constantly changing his mind . I’ll thank my lucky stars when someone more competent is in charge in the UK.

The numbers speak for themselves. I don’t even want to mention the mortality rate .

There’s a few things that need to be accounted for , when comparing one country to another

England’s has a population of 56m

England land mass 130,400 km2

Spain’s has a population of 47 m

Spain’s land mass 505990km2

So England’s population is nearly 10m more spread in less than a 1/3 of the land.

Fact ... govts do not spread the virus people do and if you have more people in a smaller area of land your going to get a bigger spread.

Fact ... the govt did not make the new variant, it’s a natural process for any virus.

Fact... England has developed its own vaccine, which was developed backed by the govt.

Fact... spain hasn’t developed any virus

Fact... the only way out of this mess is vaccination, England has its own govt backed vaccine and doesn’t need EU funding and American vaccines like spain.

Now you tell me which govt made a mess of it...........

Fact .. the EU has brought 400 m vaccines from England some of which will be used in spain...

These are the facts of how short sighted and incapable spain is...all it’s done is cried for help, some of the people in spain will possibly owe there life’s to the English govts.

hi john,

i think it was a govt decision, some will say a little late but warranted.

i think for now all borders should be shut and people should be isolated from each other as far as possible.(bubbles permitted)

there are econimical reason why the govt waited for the last minute

When you say economical decision, what do you mean ,if visitors to UK have to pay for test themselves  as I know you have to do visit Spain why would it affect the government's decision ,I assume  you would show the test results when you show your passport, I flew from Spain  to UK in September had filled in form on phone and was asked if I had completed form on arrival at Gatwick, was never asked to show ,flew back next day to Alicante  was asked in baggage area if I had completed form by 2 girls and then a few metres further on wS asked by 2men to show form ,they scanned barcode and then I ws allowed to exit ,this was done by 4 people hardly a fortune in wages I would think

The airline carrier asks us to complete the form before we fly. If we don’t fill it in, they email again and continue to do so until the form is completed and electronically sent to the gov. site.we would not be allowed to fly if it wasn’t completed.

No need to do anymore.  Yes, your form is checked upon arrival in Spain but all they do is ascertain that we have completed it and zap the barcode.  Nobody calls to enquire as to your health. No difference at all. Our government expect us to follow guidelines and if everyone in the country listened to and did what they were asked, then things might be different.

economic in the sense of keeping business open and working, i think lots of people rely on schools being open so they can work, with the help of child minders etc.

i work in construction and luckily im able to continue working this time...

bear in mind the amounts of money the govt are shelling out in furlough schemes ,grants etc..

Sorry  Terry maybe I should change my name to Mr Thicko what is people arriving into UK  having to produce a negative  test result  anything to do with people not allowed to work  because of lockdown  or people not able to work  because schools  closed and having to child mind ,I would think that any competent government who make decisions  to lock people down must weigh up welfare of population  again economic downturn produced by preventing people working due to lockdown  again not an economist or scientist  advising government  just a humble retired electrician
