Hi Everyone I am leaving uk and catching a ferry to Spain and driving down to Benidorm and have rented a flat for a year in Benidorm itself.
Any tips or guidance you experts have gathered over your time in Spain would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you secured a visa to allow you to live in Spain permanently?
Since Brexit You can't just move to Spain and look for work.

As tebo53 has already messaged, it is important that you have visas already in place before you arrive.

Thanks for your reply I have an Irish passport so I was told I am not governed by the 90 rule and have to register to stay longer than 90 days. Is this right? I have retired so no plans to work

Hi,
Yes you will need to register with the National Police within the first 3 months of arrival in Spain otherwise you are limited by the 90/180 rule.
You will need to prove the income and healthcare requirements.
Here are 2 links with all the information you need:
From the Upsticks website:

From the Spanish Government website:

A couple of websites that may be of help to you:
Citizens Advice Bureau Spain, for bureaucratic stuff, and
N332 for anything to do with driving in Spain. This site is for English speaking people and is run in collaboration with officers of the Guardia Civil. It has an English version of the Spanish equivalent of the Highway Code on it.

Yes, that is correct, however, you must register with the National Police (details of location below). The link below from the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs explains your responsibilities. There is a requirement that you need a Foreigner Identity Number (NIE) and this can be applied for at the National Police Station here in Benidorm also. The link below will explain procedure and documents required. You will also be required to register on the Padron at the local Council offices. I have attacheded a link for this also.

Another item I should have mentioned is the Irish Passport card, if you dont already hold one. I would recommend applying for one. The cards are similar in size to a National Identity Card, however, you can use them to travel within the EU/EEA and to and from the UK. The card fits perfectly into a wallet/purse and saves carrying a Passport with you when out and about. The cards are only issued providing you have a valid Irish Passport and are valid for 5 years or untill the expiration of the Passport whichever is earlier. I use mine all the time when identity is required. The following link will provide more information:

Hi Poddy16. I am going through the process now and have my appointment on 1st March in Elche. If I can give you one piece of advice that caught me out....make sure you have a Spanish bank account which has been opened for at least 3 months with the right amount of money in. I found this out at a previous appointment in November. I was informed all my UK banks accounts statements would be suffice which was wrong. The Police wasn't interested in my uk bank. I'm led to believe its only the Alicante region that requires you to have a Spanish bank account?
