Dear all,

This has been a fascinating (and often amusing) read. Thanks ;-)

So...thinking this through..'essential travel'...hm

So going on holiday probably turns your insurance to pants..

But if you are moving to your house in Spain (new primary residence) having sold up lock-stock etc....is that 'reasonable'?

I suspect the question is rhetorical but the challenge is real for us.

Depends on what cover you may rely on? Current company cover? Not holiday. New health cover as needed in Spain by a new insurer as part of the move to residencia?

It is not a simple nor straight forward equation is it?

Yes, I'll talk to my employer...see how that goes.

Best regards,

D&J

Hi, I hope this helps?
I have an annual travel insurance policy and recently asked the insurance company if I was still insured to travel and was COVID covered!

An edited copy ( names) of the reply below

Dear Mr (removed)

Thank you for contacting us.

If you chose to travel to a country that the FCO have advised against all but essential travel to you are still fully covered by your travel insurance whilst abroad. You will be covered for medical expenses up to £10,000,000 per person and this would also include covering you if you were to contract covid 19 while on holiday.

Any other queries, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

Hello Louis, there is nothing in the T&Cs to exclude travel against FCO advice but they are not selling this policy at the moment. I imagine that they will juggle the T&Cs before offering it back on general sale and will exclude such travel for the future, or add something relating to pandemics, as they have excluded claims relating to sitting on or jumping off balconies........they react to changing circumstances.
It also has very stringent terms re pre -existing conditions which, had it still been on general sale, would have precluded many people from obtaining  insurance especially for any known links with Covid such as asthma, other lung conditions, obesity, high blood pressure etc.
I would be very interested to hear if they offer you renewal on the same terms.

Hi Cheryl

I too will be very surprised to get this cover when I renew in October!

I had declared and had except high blood pressure, but unfortunately I developed a tumour that has now been treated, hopefully Eliminated!!

Everything has been fully disclosed to the insurer obviously the cancer is excluded but the blood pressure is accepted.

I would advise anyone to make sure that any medical problems or investigations are fully disclosed before purchase and that developed even if you are not sure!

You then know where you stand, and can evaluate any risk before travel.

Have a good day and stay safe

Yes Louis, my reason for starting this thread was to draw people's attention to the fact that just because they had insurance, it didn't mean they were actually covered as most insurers exclude travel against FCO advice. Rather be disappointed beforehand than find out when you are totally up the creek without a paddle!
As RayD said earlier in the thread, you can get insurance for anything but usually at a cost and usually through specialist insurers but most of the policies on general sale will cover themselves against known risks.
Enjoy it while you can.
