Hi Villas,

yes, winning the race because not enough vaccines are being administered worldwide. The focus must be on increasing the distribution globally otherwise the risk remains high for new variants of concern to emerge.

concur.

But The Executive Director of the WHO Health Emergencies Programme, Dr. Mike Ryan: said,  ā€œ[Almost] all the regions had an increase in cases in the last weekā€¦this is not a flat curve; this is an increasing curve. Making assumptions that transmission is not going to increase because of vaccines is a false assumption".

The Oviedo Convention ( Convention for the protection of Human Rights and Dignity of the Human Being with regard to the Application of Biology and Medicine: Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine) makes it impossible for any signatory state to impose mandatory vaccination without free consent.

This Convention is the only international legally binding instrument on the protection of human rights in the biomedical field.

Know your rights and make use of this knowledge when necessary.

Here's the link to the actual convention:

Primacy of the human being

The interests and welfare of the human being shall prevail over the sole interest of society or science.

A good report in context of this post.

Hi Steve.

My direction is and will always be the right to choose.

And wider society has the right to choose not to include those who choose not to protect others in their societal activities.

Hi funnycrusader,

How would you use this Convention in respect of Covid-19, given that the penultimate paragraph states,

"The Convention recognises the importance of promoting a public debate and consultation on these questions. THE ONLY RESTRICTIONS ARE THOSE PRESCRIBED BY LAW AND WHICH ARE NECESSARY IN A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY IN THE INTEREST OF PUBLIC SAFETY, for the prevention of crime, FOR THE PROTECTION OF PUBLIC HEALTH,  OR FOR THE PROTECTION OF THE RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS OF OTHERS."

?

Kind regards,

Kim

Almost 70 years after these words were adopted in the Constitution of the World Health Organization, they are more powerful and relevant than ever.

["Everyone has the right to privacy and to be treated with respect and dignity. Nobody should be subjected to medical experimentation, forced medical examination, or given treatment without informed consent"]

I assume some or others may/may not (or been selective), have not read this under scrutiny. May be found under Human basic Rights.

Then there is the conflict between rights - in the round the rights of the individula cannot trump the rights of wider society i.e. those around them. Clearly if you are suffering from a dangerous condition you cannot be allowed to spread that illness. The natural conclusion would be to accept the rules of society as laid down by elected governments or be isolated from that society.

Hi V,

You are right that vaccines are not going to stop the infections. There is evidence that they reduce the chances of spreading the virus but they do not stop it entirely. Best way forward is to get more vaccinated, last estimate a saw, which is a couple of weeks old, was that only 26% of the global population had had even one jab.

Well said Kim.

I often wonder if any of these "Unvaxed" have lost a friend/family member through covid.

I have lost no one to Covid but know two women who died after their vaccines. Age 51 and 72. Both women were in Ireland and there was no autopsy.

The entire situation is a scary and sad mess...
