How is Elche as a place to live?

HI, We are considering moving our family to Elche (we love Alicante and the surrounding area) as we want a predominantly Spanish area but obviously with some expat community. We have looked at several areas and towns and Elche seems to be lovely. Are there any areas to concentrate on for buying a house / apartment? Our children are 9 and 12 years old and will be going to a local school and we are keen for them to settle in and make new friends as soon as possible. The eldest speaks some Spanish but not the youngest, I speak a little but my wife is fluent.

The plan is to settle and my wife will look for work while I look for and buy a holiday let as a business.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Peter

Hello Peter, the laws on holiday lets have been enforced since June 2018 and the following fantastic guide has been produced by a forum member,

Davebev1's guides: Renting out your property as a holiday let in Spain

Only the Ayuntamiento can say if a particular property will get a licence so please don't listen to assurances from estate agents. It is currently taking up to a year to gain a licence so you would need to factor in this time with no income as you cannot even advertise until the licence is in place. Even if the property is surrounded by other holiday lets it does not mean that you would be successful. The owners may have obtained the licence prior to June 2018, the Community may have voted against allowing any more holiday lets or the Ayuntamiento may have decided that the limit has been reached.

Thank you Cheryl very useful info. I will be looking after the home and family until ready to complete with holiday let so time factor not an issue.

We were hoping to live in Elche and have the let on the coast. Want it separate from our home! Thanks for the advice though.

If anyone has any info on Elche as a place to live would be grateful.
