All restrictions have ended in the UK but infections have gone through the roof to record levels, 1 in 11 now have the virus.

Less to do with mask wearing or not and more to do with a highly infectious strain of covid, which is fortunately not as deadly as previous strains.

Take a look at the figures for South Korea, Germany and recently France, you will see that their infection rates are quite a bit higher than the UK, despite their mask wearing policies.

But your right, the infection figures are high in the UK, I'm not sure that it is 1 in 11, but they are starting to drop this week.

Hi Paul,

People in the UK testing positive for Covid on 1 April, for the previous 7 days period, was more than 21.2m people out of a total population of 68.5m 😳  The Small Business federation is asking for the government to reinstate restrictions; now that staff absence is significantly hitting big business too, I wonder whether BoJo may take notice 🤔

This morning, Easyjet is suggesting that disruption will continue into the middle of this week, but with the Omicron "Stealth" variant so contagious, it feels to me like they're being pretty optimistic.  Friends flying out on 23 April have already had their return flight rescheduled, so we're hoping their outbound flight doesn't change 🤞

Stay safe,

Kim

The infection rate has gone through the roof here Kim, yet people are acting like it's gone away, some people are experiencing nothing worse than a cold but others are very ill, I can't wait to get back over there.

Kim,

since the covid outbreak began the UK have recorded a total of 21.2m cases.

According to the BBC last week there were 4.9 miliion people with covid.

I'm not sure where you got the figure of 21.2 million for the last week?

The cases in the England are 1 in 13, Wales 1 in 14 and Scotland 1 in 12, all very similar though Scotland and Wales still require masks in situations they are not mandatory in the England.

I know more people now who have covid or have recently had it than at any other time since the outbreak began in 2020. They are in the main experiencing cold like symptoms for up to 5 days, generally it is the ba2 strain which is prevalent in now many countries. I'm sure if action is needed the government will take it, though I have not seen any clamour for a return to restrictions among people I now here in the UK.

Hi aitch,

Yes, you're correct.  Apologies, I transposed the total figure by mistake.  Thanks for picking that up - I've attached the chart I was reading from.

Kind regards,

Kim
