Yes and agree with you, but having a quick look at Kimmys first post, basic peak charges are 11.8cents, off peak 5.3cents and a standing charge of 11.1cents, where with the 8 hour plan you pay peak = 16 hours at 19.9cents, 8 hour plan 9.9cents, standing charge 12.8cents, so if correct with the kW...

...h worked out, would the basic no frills plan work out cheaper or higher, I have my bill and will have ago and let you know. But I am no mathematician!!! Any one know what the basic on/off peak hours are?

Just looking at my last bill, rates are 14.5 and 6.5. As I say, the vast majority of our bill is cheap rate (around 75%) - this can be seen on the website. Standing charge is 12.3 cents

It works for us

Hi Peter,

The Off-peak hours are:

Winter season - 10 pm to 12 noon

Summer season - 11 pm to 1 pm

The remaining hours are Peak.

The season's change on the same weekend as the clocks change for Daylight Saving Time, i.e. we changed to Summer season on Sunday 28 March.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you Kim, I will scrutinise the IBERDROLA website for the plan rates as stevec2x has replied with his rates and I think are different to mine? Although he does not mention a 20% discount across the board except for taxes! So I feel this will take me some time!!! Thank you Kimmy and have a lovely evening.

Hi, do you get any discounts as my rates seem higher than yours, but I receive a 20% discount for everything except taxes.

My last bill shows rates of 16.4 cents peak and 8.5 cents off-peak, and standing charge of 11.5 cents.  We have Plan Noche because, when we have our storage heaters on during the colder months, they charge during the night, and appliances that draw a lot of power, e.g. dishwasher, washing machine, pool pump, etc. are used exclusively off-peak.  I can clearly be doing better, comparing our existing rates to those quoted by Sparks for PVPC with Plan Noche.

Kind regards,

Kim

Hi, I'm not aware of any discounts, but the rates I quoted are before tax. Is your contract with Iberdrola Clientes, as mine is?

Hi

I don't believe that dishwashers and washing machines take a lot of power. They only heat the water for a few minutes, the rest of the time is spent just moving a small amount of water around. Pool pumps might be different!

I have no experience of storage heaters, but like water boilers, they surely are best heated just in time before you want to use them, to avoid losses. Our boiler is timed to be hot around midday, using cheap rate electricity, which is about the time we want to use hot water.

Cheers

I have just done the sums, using the prices quoted on the Iberdrola website for their ‘standard’ tariff ie the same price 24/7. Currently we are using the Plan Noche. Because we are both disorganised and try as I will, I cannot always organise laundry etc overnight, and am usually cooking early evening and also given that our house is entirely electric, no gas at all, whether or not we like it we are going to consume power pretty much all the time.

Before anyone says anything, please let me say that I do understand the daily charges re potencia and the different prices for cheap and full price hours. However, interestingly, it would appear that for our last month’s bill, dated March 25th, given that we used the underfloor heating because it was very cold, would have been 10% approximately cheaper  using the standard rate.

This seems to be because the  potencia price is overall a little cheaper on the standard rate and also that the standard rate per KWh seems to me to work out cheaper than the two different rates on Plan Noche. Anyone else think I’ve made a huge mistake somewhere as I am now seriously thinking of changing to the standard tariff?

Hi Stephanie

Interesting read. Like you, we were on plan noche. It was, as you say, a bit of a pain trying to organise the big ticket items into the correct time band. I also prefer to cook in the evening

I came to the conclusion it was probably more useful for people with storage heaters; heating them throughout the night.

When I was there recently (non resident) I changed to the plan where you could pick the eight hours that were at a “reduced” cost. It will be interesting to interrogate my bills and see how they stack up against their standard rate. Unfortunately, I’m having difficulties accessing my online account, so can’t check 🤪🥂

We use the 8 hour plan, with the chosen hours set to coincide with when we want heating and hot water. This means we pay 6.5c per kwh for the two heaviest users of power. Appliances these days are very efficient and don't take much power, but heating the house and water is another matter!

At least I’m not the only one who finds it a pain! Would be interested to know the results of your 8 hour selection. Although I do remember a couple of years ago doing a comparison and thought it wasn’t that beneficial and wouldn’t work for us.
