Hi Pearl, thank you so much for the very helpful info . We were over in March this year and I was shocked at how cold it was in the house we stayed in so I know they are not built for winter months , I was so thankful I had brought my hot water bottle with me ( it goes everywhere with me ) it certainly was needed .

I’m so looking forward to coming back again  next March  . The weather has been vile today I. Uk pouring down and grey . Thanks again x

We have had rain here too. Temperatures have dropped. Night time is more comfortable. You will find that your social life can be as quiet or as busy as you want. Local papers have events and social nights. Have to say myself i prefer this time of year when tourism is at its lowest. Fiestas and summer is manic here

Hi there , several people have said they prefer it low tourism times and I suppose it’s really hot in high summer . So will really enjoy it when we come back. We have more of the same weather as yesterday looks like winter is really on its way and I hate the winter months . I’m so tired today we look after our little grandchild on Monday’s and Wednesday so I’m always tired the day after . Xx

We have live in Guardamar 2 years this August and best move we ever made. We had our first winter here last year and yes it is ever so quiet and a lot of hotels and restaurants close, but we love it. There is still plenty to do Volunteer Charity Shops,Walk Homeless dogs, join a walking or cycling group, book club, fitness class,Spanish group etc plus you have the bus station which will take you Torrevieja,La Mata,Elche,Rojales,Benimar,Alicante etc so if we want a bit of noise or a night out we bus somewhere and taxi back. You also have the beach and salt lakes on your doorstep.

I am enjoying my breakfast in bed and catching up with the forum. I have read all the posts from start to finish and it is wonderful to see how many people love their lives living here in Spain.  I believe the sunshine makes us happy and looking out at the clear, blue sky makes me think that I have stayed in bed for far too long. We have our son and his girlfriend staying so have been enjoying eating and drinking far more than usual but the pleasure of having their company is well worth it.

Fairy 108, where are you now? Uk or Spain?  Have you reached any decision regarding your future here? Like so many others, I believe that I prefer being here off season for purely selfish reasons. You can park your car usually, the sun isn’t too intense, you don’t feel obliged to race off with your sun bed to the beach , in fact, there is a wonderful laissez faire feeling .. no pressure on you to have to do anything.

I am not into joining societies nor do I feel the need to. My husband and I have become joined at the hip since our children flew the nest. We are happy together and enjoy life. Torrevieja is a working town and always a busy place. In the winter, we park our car on the outskirts and walk along the boardwalks all the way into town it is always buzzing.  We sit down and have coffee and something to eat and thank our lucky stars to be living this wonderful life. What a joy to escape the cold, damp winter of home.  On the other side of the coin, if and when we are at home, we equally have a wonderful life. We live in a beautiful area and enjoy a great social life there. Most of us are truly blessed. You don’t have to be rich if you are happy and enjoy good health. Just remember to make the best of your time here as we don’t know what the future holds.

Time to rise and shine!

Well, I have just arrived in and have eaten and drank far too much but that said, we had a wonderful night out.

Interestingly enough , we had a 3 night break in  Los Alcázares in April and loved it.

However, proved to be enormously quiet during the week.....dead as a door post to be honest.

You struck me as a person who likes lots of activity and you simply have to do your homework/ research before deciding where you choose to buy.  A quiet, residential place may not suit you at all. Do not base your choice of Spanish home on a whim. It is absolutely vital that you carry out some research. Have you stayed for at least a few weeks in Los Alcázares?  It has always been recommended by people on the forum that anyone planning to buy should rent for at least 6 months before committing to spending their life savings. Please consider renting.

Look, I know you really dream of coming to Spain and that is perfectly understandable. To be fortunate enough to have a home here is a true blessing but be wise, do your homework before choosing somewhere that could prove to be the wrong place.

People come out here full of excitement and enthusiasm..they would happily accept any property within reason as they are living in a dream.....

.STOP, THINK AND  REMEMBER that once you have signed on the dotted line and parted with your hard earned money, that is where your dream starts or possibly ends depending on where you made your choice.  Be wise. Make a list of what both you and your husband really want.

Can’t continue offering drunken advice as I am now invited to play cards outside.

I apologise if I am not making any sense but sincerely would like you to make the best decision of your lives.

We have lived in rural Brittany for 13 years and love it, but, we have a lot of land, active in our early seventies, but considering moving to Spain, partly some pressure from family who would find the travel easier à do cheaper to visit. We will have a small'budget, not more than 110,000 euro probably. Like others have mentioned, need space but to be able to walk to amenities which we can't now.Would also like to perhaps joking something to do. We have two dogs which may also pose a bit of a problem so we are trying to work it all out and will be having'a look next spring at' options. as someone mentioned, dont like the of any houses I have  seen on line, are we barking up the wrong tree? Someone mentioned crafty things, yes, that would be wonderful as I am a newbie quilter. Any thoughts please. The place mentioned in the earlier post beginning with G Inthink, might  be a starting point ?
