Avoid Sabadell if at all possible - they have got to be the most expensive bank in Spain.

I endorse Wise acc,nt - or KBC in Ireland for another euro account. My Sabadell statement is one long list of charges in one form or another.

To be honest, I've been with Sabadell as a resident for 8 years and never had any problems. As a resident I get charged €60 per annum which at around a euro per week I accept as OK. However I do use Wise to transfer money from the UK to Sabadell here in Spain.

I have been with Sabadell for 14 years, and find them excellent.

I have no bank charges at all.

I can't imagine banking solely with an online account. Maybe it's a generational thing on my part!

I left Sabadell 3 yrs ago and opened a wefferrent account with Cajamar who offer an online fee free account even for non residents. The changing of the DD,s they took all the info and details of them but stated may miss following months payments of the DDd, s that were close to that date. Although it seemed daunting I did it all myself with providers using Google translate which was a Godsend. Sent everyone an email in Spanish and everyone confirmed their receipt. Could not have been easier. Anyone needing "how to" give me a shout as I was anxious about nothing. Btw still haven't paid a cent in fees in 3 years and very happy with their use. At that time Wise was not as recommended as today because residents were still getting fee free accounts but that's since changed.

Hello Pauline,

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience.

I read your post about the fee free Wefferent online account some time ago, so I decided to open one a couple of weeks ago.

I followed your advice and went to a Cajamar Bank branch iwith my NIE document, as you said it was not accepted online.

The Personal Banker reluctantly accepted my request to open an online account at the branch. She copied my documents and gave me a username and a password for me to finalise the proceess online. I completed the process later on online and got an account number. I downloaded a Cajamar app and have been very happy about the new account until today..

When I was opening the account online, I did not read 28 pages of Terms and Conditions of the account and 39 pages of T&C of the Debit Card but I accepted them in order to open the A/C, believing that there won't be any charges.

I decided to read them today, and to my big surprise there is a Maintenance Quarterly charge of 30.00€ for the account but no charge for the card, unless you loose it and want a replacement. I m disappointed. and regret that I didn't read the T&C before I agreed to them.

I guess,  the Spanish banks have recently become more stricter towards non residents.

Hi Reg, I am really sorry to hear your experience and I am wondering if it is definitely the wefferrent account you opened. They do have quite a few differrent accounts, so please check. I know some people have had differrent experiences lately, such as having to open another account and deposit over 1000€ in a savings account and been told they can still access it anytime. Actually this has challenged my memory and I think our paperwork states something similar I seem to remember asking at time of opening is this a fee, but was told no so long as its only run online. I will dig our paperwork out tomorrow and see if I can answer your problem. The easiest would be to take yours back in and question it. The only fee I,ve ever paid was when I left our debit cards in Uk and needed a replacement for our stay, which was a 3€ fee, 7 days later just for my card. I will get back to you if I find something out tomorrow.

Regards

Pauline

You can put your money into any branch of Sabadell.
