Thanks for the information.  Which hire car company was this please?  Did they tell your wife that ALL the hire car companies are closing?

Many thanks,

Kim

Thank you.  I've just read the Government Boletin and this extract confirms your advice:

"Article 2. Opening of vehicle rental offices without drivers

"2. The opening of premises for the hiring out of vehicles without drivers in the case of the hiring out of vehicles for private use shall be permitted only for the purpose of enabling the hirer to return vehicles hired under a contract concluded before the entry into force of this order."

Apologies for pressing you on this point, but under the current circumstances, I think it's especially important to include official sources.  Thank you for flagging this up.

Kind regards,

Kim

I spoke to Centauro yesterday and they are open in Torrevieja on Monday to return my car.

Hi Patti,

Yes, as the Boletin says, the hire companies are open for "enabling the hirer to return vehicles hired under a contract concluded before the entry into force of this order", but people will not be able to have new hire contracts.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thanks Ray, does the Boletin differentiate between "goods transport vehicles" and "private vehicles"?  A friend's car was booked in for a service on Monday this week, but the booking was cancelled by the garage.

Kind regards,

Kim

Tell your friend to ask himself if a journey for a routine car service is urgent or justifiably necessary.

Movingon, my husband advised our friend to call the garage, because he (we) didn't believe it was appropriate to go to the garage, hence our friend discovered that the service had been cancelled.

I know that your preferred style of communication is generally sarcastic and judgemental, but as Ray's post about garages being open for repair of commercial vehicles didn't mention private vehicles, my question was asked quite deliberately to ensure there would be no misunderstanding on the forum.
