I have type 2. Diabetes and under 60 I get my blood level strips from the pharmacy as they are on my prescription. I do pay for them but it’s little over a €.

When I require the testing needles I take my near on empty box to the medical centre that I’m registered with and they give me a new box free.

I would suggest you go see you Dr or like me you must be registered with a diabetic nurse at you medical centre go see them for help with your diabetic testing kits.

Is your husband at the age where he would receive free prescriptions on the UK, ie over 60?

If he is under 60 he would have to pay in the UK, unless he is receiving medication for his diabetic treatment/control, in which case he would have free prescriptions - whatever age.

If there rules are mirrored in Spain under the Spanish Healthcare agreement  with the UK then this may be why he’s having to pay for his strips?

If he is over 60, then disregard all of the above, it will be interesting to find out the reason why he is being charged !

He was told at the clinic 8 years ago, that he couldn't get strips on prescription.

We have spent in excess of 400€ in that time.

We now get them on prescription???

Went to docs, they are now on prescription after all this time.

Could have saved lots of money, but at least we get them free now.

Hello. I have diabetes type 2 too. You have to ask your dokter in your country to write you a medical history report and also a list or your medication. Then you ask the doctor in Spain for the testing strips and she puts them on your sip card so you can collect them at the farmacy when you go get your medication.

I even got a new meter because the spanish strips don’t fit in my belgian one (for free)

Good luck.

It is certainly not the case in Murcia that testing strips are available for Type 2 diabetics.  Only for those who inject.
