Hi. I'm looking for a job in La Marina starting in the summer. I've been made redunant in the UK and I'm am now looking to move out to La Marina. I have a lot of experience and qualifications in many different fields. I have my CV avaliable on request. I am a very hard worker and have been in various management positions. I look forward to finding something suitable very soon. If anyone can help me, please reply to this. Thank you very much.

Hi Cholreed,

Sorry to hear you've been made redundant.  Is your move to La Marina dependant on you getting work out here?  The reason I ask is that, as at April 2020, the UK's unemployment rate was 3.9% and Spain's was 14.4%, but the Covid-19 pandemic has already started to see increases in these rates, and Spain is forecasting around 25% unemployment by year end.

If you'd asked any other year, my advice would have been that you could possibly get low-paid, seasonal work, but to obtain a formal contract, you would need to speak Spanish and have niche skills scarce in the Spanish labour market.  The pandemic has made this situation a whole lot worse.  If you do have niche skills, it may be worth specifically targeting that market sector in Spain.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thank you. My parents currently live in La Marina. I would be happy to work in a bar or as a waiter or anything. As long as I earn some money. I'm also a drummer and can do vocals. But I will need something just to get me started.

The problem at the moment is that, following a very strict lockdown in Spain, some of the bars and restaurants are re-opening at reduced capacity, so need less staff, and it remains to be seen whether all of them will survive.

If your parents already live here, could they put out 'feelers' for you around La Marina?  As you'll know, there are a lot of bars and restaurants there and with people having been unable to travel, perhaps they may be able to get in early on your behalf for any opportunities that may be available?

Sorry not to be more encouraging, but I wouldn't want to give you false hope.

Kind regards,

Kim
