Our water bill for July/ Oct period has come in at 2448€!! Our previous bill came at 377€ which was by our previous bills still too high

I made a complaint via the water company website that the previous bill was too high and after 10 days they send a note in English saying they will respond with a resolution ASAP

However no response has ever been received and now our current water bill is to say stupid is under statement

The water usage on the current bill is specified as 792m3!! This amount would have flooded our garden in half day

Can we take a legal action against the water company as if indeed there was a massive leak which I doubt shouldn’t they have informed us immediately?

You obviously have a leak. If the leak is before your meter then the water company is responsible. From the meter to your property is your responsibility. Keep on at them to come out and check.

In several cases like this I have heard they have come to an agreement and reduced the bill but you just need to keep on at them.

We are registered online for our bills and if we were to get a sudden surge in the amount of water being used they can alert us so we can check for leaks.

Do  you live in Apartment  or a Bungalow  or Terrace house. You  must locate  your  Water meter. Check  to  see if  any  Dampness  around. Check with your  Neighbours  . If  leak  is  in  a Service  duct  for Apartment  you  must locate  the Service  hatch/ small  door   you  will  need a  good  light/ Torch look  up and  down  Service  hatch to see if  any  leaks  or persist  drips  of  water.  If  you  are been billed  for such a large  usage of  water  it  has to  be  doing  some  damage  to  someone  property  if you are in Apartment. If  in a Terrace  house  it must be  surfacing  somewhere. The  ground  would  be soggy. Also  reas  your  meter  on a Daily basis. Keep  account  of  usage. Your President  of Urbanisation/Community  should  have a  key  to  Access  Water  meters as  it  been know for  some smart arse to  connect  to someone  else meter. As   Marcliff said  keep annoying Water  companies  but also  do your  own  searching  around  meters and check  Service  duct..You can  find them in Common  Sttairways

Best of  luck 👍

Hi

Thx for the comments we have since Sept 19 discovered where the leak was and have had it repaired

The leak was on the 3/4 inch pipe connecting into the house where it was split in two places the pipe is buried 300mm deep and the area surrounding it is .05x.05 m2 so by their account put of 792 m3 supposedly used over 700m3 is leaked that is over 4m3 per hour for 68 days as the leak was repaired on Sep 20 that kind of leak would have flooded our garden in half a day but nothing like this has happened

So I have no idea where all this water has gone

Hi

No we live in a detached villa and we have a pool also, we lived in this villa for over 8 years and our water bill even during the summer months where we have had to top up the pool has never been as high as 258€ so the question is if indeed there was this massive leak where 700m3 have gone why didn’t the water company despite our first complaint on the previous bill never bothered to respond and warn of such leak

I have asked our solicitor to advise whether we have a legal case here as such water leak would have flooded the whole street

If  leak is on  your side  of  meter  it  is  household  responsibility 😤. It  is recommended  not to use Connection  underground.  Use 1 continuous  pipe  no Connection  if  possible.  If  Connection  are to be used they must  be Pressed  on using  a specified  machine

Thx again

Well we are monitoring the water meter every day now and keep a record of the reading I have spoken to a plumber about changing the connection to a one continuous pipe but he wanted too much money so I will have to see if I can find another white a better quote

Cheers

So I have no idea where all this water has gone

So the total loss of water of around 700m3 occured over 68 days, which would make it around 10m3 per day. It would be difficult to notice, especially 30cm deep and leaking from 2 separate points.

Have you contacted your insurance? Some insurers cover losses due to leaks.
