Hi my partner and I are looking to move from the U.K to La Romana in the near future, and I would really appreciate any advice on state schooling for my 9 year old daughter, is it advisable to be able to speak Spanish...I'm learning myself ,but feel like I'm getting nowhere ..it would be lovely to hear about how you guys found the transition. Thanks in advance

I live in Spain, am still learning Spanish online through a site called Busuu excellent but be careful it automatically renews each year if you have not cancelled before.

Hi, we have lived in La Romana for just over a year now. It is a lovely friendly village and there are a lot of English here but you will need some Spanish as English is not widely spoken outside of the ex pat society. I have also been learning on line with Synergy Spanish and can get by with the aid of a translation ap. I can't comment on school as we are retired but have heard that the village school is very good but I think lessons will all be in Spanish. There are local people who give lessons. Hope this helps. If you move here and need anything please feel free to contact me, always happy to help as I know how daunting it feels when you are new to somewhere. All the best. Jackie
