Thanks very much for info , I will give her a call on Monday

How did you get on?

I don’t know where you are, but my husband lived with me through my trials and tribulations getting my TIE.   He says if he can help you in any way he will.  He’s not legally trained though, just speaks the language and is au fair with ayuntamientos, police stations,  etc.

Hi Margi,

I may have misunderstood your post, but if your friend had been living permanently in Spain for 7 years without lawful residency before Brexit, they were an illegal immigrant.  How is this Spain's fault?

Kim

Hi Margi,

Sorry, I wasn't questioning your own residency, but that of your friends because of what you said about them being here for 7 years.

It seems many Brits either believed Brexit wouldn't make a difference to them, or perhaps they couldn't afford to apply for residency before Brexit.  However, if that was the case, those same people certainly won't be able to afford the financial requirements of Spanish residency post-Brexit.  I just wish they had listened to the advice from bona-fide fora such as this, instead of bar-room lawyers 😔

Hopefully, once Covid restrictions are lifted, you'll see your friends again soon 👍 In the meantime, stay safe.

Best wishes,

Kim

That's why when we moved over in  November we tried to get everything in place before end December,  just couldn't get pre brexit appointments , thats the problem we facing , although the lawyer we used have said they can't help us further ???, hasn't even suggested applying as an non EU national , we have the financial requirements but they just cut us off , feel totally ripped off by them ☹

Hi Margi,

Some of the illegal immigrants may get away with it for the rest of this year, but when ETIAS is introduced in 2022 it will be impossible,  especially for those who are also abusing the UK by going back there for NHS healthcare.  Personally, despite some sections of the media reporting otherwise, I don't believe the Spanish police will need to proactively seek them out - even for those who are content never to leave Spain, the police here do seem to like a roadside check for one reason or another.... it's just a matter of time 😉😄

Kind regards,

Kim
