I haven't read through the details.

If you are not resident, you are not entitled to a SIP. Some health centres would give them out to cover ongoing treatment , more for their own convenience than anything else, but they all now seem to be refusing to renew them.
Some specialist insurers will still cover you but any pre-existing health conditions will impact the cover available. None of them will cover you for trip cancellation.
Hopefully none of this will be needed!

Br1an I am under the impression if you have an up to date EHIC card (up to 31/12/2020 you are covered for any emergency wheather it a damaged big toe or Heart attack . You should get the same treatment  aSpansh person will get in U.K.

Hi Brian,

Funeral plans are unlikely to cover you for repatriation of your body to your home country, as it is prohibitively expensive.  Companies such as Golden Leaves, Avalon, etc. provide for your funeral to take place in the country where you happen to be located at your demise, e.g. Spain, UK, etc.

Have you looked at whether you can obtain travel insurance which would cover you for death abroad, so long as your death isn't due to Covid-19?  It was a couple of weeks ago, but I'm sure someone on here said they were able to obtain this level of cover from the Nationwide - may be worth calling around a few travel insurers.  Of course, if you DO contract Covid-19, your insurance is no use to you.

Kind regards,

Kim

Thanks Ray.  My post said that "Funeral plans" from companies such as Golden Leaves and Avalon don't cover repatriation in the event of death, but travel insurance may well do, so long as death isn't from Covid-19 (given the current FCO travel advice).  I suggested the OP contact Nationwide - now they can add your suggestions of Barclays and Aviva to their list!  :o)

Thank you. My wife and I have very similar Travel insurance  The problem is at present (and we have asked our insurance company) if we travel to Spain it’s against   The U.K. Foreign Officers Advise and we would not be covered ! I don’t worry about becoming sick or having an accident. I believe the health care in Spain is equal to that in the U.K. But and I know Dead’s Dead we would wish to be Repatriated!           It’s one of those things.   Kind Regards. Brian

Br1an understand you’re problem I will have to check again with our insurance companies. Me and the wife did agree if we died their we would stay their did not go down well with kids so we had to check about repatriation but this was before COVID in January good luck.

Ray.

https://www.barclays.co.uk/insurance/travel-insurance/

This states that Barclays are no longer offering insurance for Covid. If you already have the insurance it seems to offer cover for Covid ( as long as all pre-existing conditions have been divulged and accepted by Barclays in writing ) but not if the travel restrictions were in place when you booked your trip.

https://www.aviva.co.uk/help-and-support/coronavirus/travel-insurance-customers/
This states that Aviva are no longer offering cover for new customers but, from a swift scan through the T&Cs it does seem to offer cover for existing policyholders.

I can only suggest that anyone who thinks they have travel insurance to contact their insurer for confirmation as many standard policies do not offer cover for travel against FCO advice.
