I wasn't arguing with anyone I was doing the opposite and suggesting a way forward, not that we can change anything but it's a discussion and I was discussing.

Millions of us that voted for brexit would change our vote , my family have gained nothing from brexit , personally lost a lot , and its buggered our country no end ,

The UK has rejected a EU offer that would make it easier for people aged between 18 and 30 to study and work abroad in the wake of Brexit. (19 April 2024)

[" No 10 has rejected the offer, stating "free movement within the EU was ended".]

This governemnt are a disgrace and seem to be deliberately making things even worse for the incoming labour government, that was a generous gesture from the EU just like when they said we could join their vaccination procurement scheme and Johnson's govt rejected their offer.

I really hope your prediction ("incoming labour government") UK is totally wrong. I wouldn't wish them onto, even, an ex-EU partner. V

We currently have a government where every cabinet minister has an offshore tax avoidance account, the country's debt doubled even before the pandemic, we had a PM who partied through the pandemic while their donors benefited massively from it, we see knighthoods and Lordships handed out to party donors and they've taken us out of the world's most succesful trading block while removing our free movement and you think the alternative could be worse?

Yes. Or at least equal. With respect. V

Yes, is nt it interesresting that our  English folks, dont see themselves as immigrants either!!!!!

Their vote is clearly “ biting them back”!

I was surprised no one commented on this, and it couldn't be more true. Brits living in Spain are not Expats, they are immigrants and should integrate like its expected of all the unwanted immigrants into the UK

Hi Paul, did you actually read the article that V. posted?

Quote:

"We are not introducing an EU-wide youth mobility scheme - free movement within the EU was ended and there are no plans to introduce it," a government spokesperson said on Friday evening.

Downing Street said it prefers country-by-country deals to an agreement that would apply across all 27 member states.

And Labour has said it has "no plans for a youth mobility scheme" if it wins the general election later this year.

A party spokesperson said it had already pledged "no return to the single market, customs union or free movement" if it takes office.

Unquote:

It was also pointed out that the UK already runs schemes with some non-EU countries to allow people to come to the UK for up to two years.

Not exactly a disgraceful refusal and Labour are in agreement with the policy. Maybe you'd be better to vote for the Lib Dems?.

I wonder if the generous EU offer was linked to the fact that many EU countries have a significant shortage of skilled workers?

Rgds,

Aitch.

I, (as an immigrant , have never been explained ex-pat in this country) except by UK immigrants.

["many EU countries have a significant shortage of skilled workers?"] & visa versa. Hence, pre-brexit trade & exchange & free travel. within Europe.

You really need to get hold of a dictionary. You are an expat to your own country and an immigrant to your new one. This gets brought up every time and it really makes no difference at all. Oh, and the Americans call themselves expats no matter how long they will be in their adopted country so not just Brits.

I also doubt many on here can understand what the people from Norway, Sweden, Holland et al call themselves.

Why not really integrate and call yourself a Guiri?
