Very helpfull.  I may look to change.  But I pay my annual non residents tax over the counter with the paperwork at the bank.  Will they do this?

Many thanks

I am fairly certain that they will do this if you have the relevant bank account numbers and reference details but, as I said, to pay bills over the desk in the bank has been rather expensive for us i.e. when we paid our solicitor for our house purchase work; so we try to avoid doing it.

What sort of charges are we talking for counter work?

I think we were paying a deposit to our solicitor, if I remember rightly, but I think the fee was about 30 euros!

Thats a really interesting solution Jim. Ive just opened a non resident expansion with sabadell and trying to work out best and most cost effective way of transferring 700 euro a month. If I did transferwise account you suggest can I pay the bills from UK?

BTW always find your answers/comments useful! Thanks 🙏

I haven't actually used my Transferwise borderless account yet, so can't give you any details - all I've done is put some pounds and euros into it and activated the debit card. The reason I set it up was that it's free, and it gives me one account in which I can have various currencies at the same time. Because we've only got one bank account here and one in the UK, the Transferwise account also gives me a second option if I ever have problems with either of the two bank accounts.

I suggest you see what the company say, and also search for some reviews.

Yes you can avoid bank charges with bankia if you keep over €6,000 in your  account, they charge you and then refund you the same amount amount.  - I have NOW Discovered they are No Longer Refunding the 28 Euro Annual Card Fee and are also charging me other service charges !!!

I am non-resident

With transferwise you can now set up direct debits on their borderless account, although only on GBP and Euro accounts.
