Hi all,

I need to better understand the rules around EU countries and EU countries who are not in the Shengen zone.

In the meantime can someone please clarify the following.......

We are UK residents living in Scotland. We understand the rolling 90 days in 180 days for visiting our holiday home in Spain.

If we were to visit Cyprus for example (an EU country but not in the Shengen zone I think) would our visit to Cyprus eat into our 90 day allowance?

We're looking for places we may want to  visit if we exhaust our 90 day allowance.

I'm also looking into non lucrative visas for the future.

Thanks in advance.

Craig

Hi Craig, please see below the list of countries in the Schengen Zone (taken from an official article updated 2021) which all count toward your 90 in 180 days....

There are 26 Schengen countries in 2020 and 2021: Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Any other country not on this list is ok to visit without eating into your “Spanish” visiting time.

Hope this helps

Don’t forget that you are welcome to visit all of Ireland as we aren’t in Schengen. The coast lines all around Ireland are magnificent and well worth a visit. Enjoy your travels where ever you go. We visited Cypress 2 years ago and lived it.  Both north and south. There are fabulous new resort hotels on the Turkish side with casinos, spas and everything a family could ask for.

Good morning John 52.

If you decide to go to Cypress, add Istanbul on to your itinerary if you haven’t been. It is most assuredly worth visiting. We flew from Cypress( north) using Pegasus airline to Istanbul and flew back to London with them too (They were the days when life was normal.). You probably know that Istanbul is on 2 continent, Europe and Asia. Oh, but we loved it and will revisit in the future all being well.
