Ah yes Pete i see what you mean now. I do not normally sign in and hit the 'New posts' tab but rather view the 'General discussion' page without signing in, unless it is to comment.

I'm sure some of the topics posted could be of some benefit, especially those warning members of a crime gang etc but maybe there should be a separate 'News' tab rather than just throw them in with the member posts.

...

A news tab would be a good idea. The same with Jim's Guides, they should be at the top of page 1, new members can't find them right down the bottom after all the adverts.

I agree, Kenneth.

My irritation was about having to scroll. At first, the news items were like UK adverts, a tolerable percentage. Lately, it had become like USA television 50% programmes, 50% adverts. The news items can be of interest to many so it would be a shame to exclude them altogether. Making navigation easier with different tabs could be a happy compromise for all.

I personally don’t care one way or the other if ‘interesting’ items from other sources are posted by Alex, it’s not that difficult to scroll through them and ignore them.

What I do object to, and this will ensure that I shall never attempt to read one of these articles again, is that, yes, the link took me to the site from which the article originated, and I was immediately prohibited from reading the rest of it by a demand that I sign up, c/w credit card details, to receive regular news from them - it was, I believe, The Olive Press. If I want to subscribe, I will, but not on the basis of trying to read the rest of one article.

Also. More interesting (as mentioned) a local "neighbourhood" crime information section (as opposed to general inf in normal papers. Just a thought. More information for the forum. V

Hi all

We have now removed news articles from appearing in our "Latest posts" and "Unread posts" feeds. To make clear: this was not to make any money - the reason we added them was we thought it might be nice for members to see local news on the forum all in one place.

We are always making improvements and listening to feedback, so please don't think you can't make suggestions by contacting us here:

Hope that helps

Alex

Unless Alex has changed things recently, Latest posts and the daily digest only list new topics, and don't include replies to existing posts.

I ignore both of these, open the forum at top level, and look for posts made since my last visit to the forum. That way, I only see what I want to see.
