I would email a few companies before you visit.  Send all the same questions, say just four or five straightforward questions (even if you already know the answer), explaining that you are looking for a lawyer to handle the purchase of a property.  When the answers come back you will ge...

...t a bit of a feel for the companies - some will reply quickly but with a sales pitch rather than actually answering your questions, other will just try and get you to make an appointment without answering anything, but one or two will communicate properly as well as suggest meeting up.  Meet the ones you feel confident with using from that email and then make your choice, and stick with them regardless of who the estate agent wants you to use.  You will be communicating with them by email mainly once you return to the UK so you need to know they will reply to your questions.  The only reason to use a different firm would be in the unlikely event that vendor is also with that company, which, although happens in Spain, is in my opinion a conflict of interest so change to your second choice.  Your lawyer must be working independently for you alone.

Thanks again also Davebev1,

Everyone is so helpful on here it's amazing. I'm trying to make notes every time I read something that could be helpful to us in the future.

As you suggest we will certainly compile some questions to send to various companies and take it from there.

Hi,

We have seen a property that we like the look of on kyero, should we contact the agent through kyero even though we have never heard of them (Girasol homes) or should we ask an agent that we have dealt with before to show it to us. We have looked at properties with Casas Manuel and Costa Invest s...

Hi, we brought our property over 3 years ago with Girisol and they were so helpful and couldn't do enough for us. I would recommend them.

Hi we bought through Sunworld a couple of years ago. Amy spent 4 days with us looking at different style properties from Punta Prima to Los Alcazarez. She was amazing showing us properties listed by other agents as well as themselves .we did not feel pressured. We were in contact with them several weeks before our visit and came over with an open mind. To be honest we duscounted all the properties we saw online due to the feel of the area or poor bus routes .

We used Casas Manuel for our purchase Sept. 2018 great service from Dave, he even went to the house with the keys the day we moved in, checked all utilities were working  including water heater, hob and oven .

Brilliant after service, used Fontanals Abogados also excellent service. We used them to arrange residencia and our tax returns.

Managed to change our driving licences through a translator through a friend.

There are plenty of very good agents and Abogados around, but a few bad ones as everywhere.

Where we lived in the UK we knew the good and bad agents and solicitors because we lived there a long time, but when you buy abroad you don't have that experience to  rely on  and unfortunately a small number of common use that to their advantage !

Thanks Karen,

Casas Manuel do seem to get good reviews on here and up to now our experiences are only good one's.

Thanks also for the recommendation of Abogado. Like you say I'm sure there are good and bad one's, which is why it's good to hear from others who have already been down that path.
