If the main reason for immigrating is the weather have you considered other countries? For example, the Philippines has some good care homes and the cost of them and the cost of living, is a lot less there. The temperatures never get get as cold as in Spain over the winter. The culture there pays much respect to the elderly and the people are very hospitable and friendly. Healthcare system is private, but really reasonably priced. The Philippines is obviously a lot further than Spain from Ireland, but if you have no family this may not be a problem.

Thank you for that. I have just spoken to the occupational therapist this am who said my gp should never have told me her opinion on diagnosing me. Yes the memory test wasn't great but I need more tests for diagnosis from neurologically qualified people. I was on such a panic over talk with GP psst few days. Maybe the mild brain loss on MRI might not be what I was told. Little steps. Feel bit better after that this am. Philippines sounds great but wouldn't be for me. Love the expat community were in. That for me is most important apart from blue skies but thank you anyway. Its much appreciated.

Although I respect everyone else’s opinions, I have to differ to a degree. My mother has been in a private care home for a couple of years, catering mainly to the expat population of several nationalities, albeit it is a small concern, maximum 25 residents. My mother is bilingual so for her it is irrelevant, but most of the staff have a command of English, including management who are fairly fluent.
Yes, it’s not inexpensive, we had to sell her house to fund this, and yes, it a little over 2500 per month plus medication and other personal expenses. But for this she has a private room and bathroom, under floor heating, all meals of course, on site geriatric nurse ( not at nighttime, but obviously emergency help available), on site Social Worker, Psychologist, Physiotherapist and so on. This is not a nursing home in that sense, it is a Residencia, so does not have the same facilities as a nursing home, but they certainly care for some people whom we would term mentally challenged.
Prior to entering this home, due to lack of available places and the habit of Spanish hospitals to announce that one will be leaving in two days and what is the care situation, we were fortunate through the help of a Spanish friend with contacts, to be able find a space in a mainly Spanish large scale Residencia cum nursing home, for a temporary stay. She was not physically able to return to her own home. Whilst not ideal, it was scrupulously run, clean, permanent onsite nursing staff, etc etc, so not as bad as other people’s experiences. Spanish hospitals have no interest in what happens after they have cured or fixed you, this is not within their remit, you are told to leave, mainly as it is assumed family will step in or you will make private arrangements. There will be no bed blocking permitted.

... may get worse with the dust, humidity. If you are running from stress, don't expect to live it all behind. If you don't speak Spanish, you will face situations like visiting a doctor, when you need to come with your translator. Spain is a spanish speaking country. We moved to Spain in our early fiftys and I feel, any later would be a struggle to get used to the " life in a sun".

...ll speed up everything I know that. My hubbie is my rock wherever I am.. luckily I have a good pension at the moment which would cover care home costs if needed. My doc etc feels we should go for it as ee won't know how long this could take could last 10 or 20 years before developing any further abd the lifestyle would help to prolong it. Something else could kill me first. Worst case scenario we move back. We already own our home on spain and would have proceeds from sale here for back up. Yes it's a risk I am aware of that but as I'm only 61 and have as my hubbie says 40 happy years together already. He feels if we have 10 more good ones thsts good enough. I just fear for him and want to knkw he can get support.
I can only admire your Determination, wish I could take the opportunity, Presently getting up at 4.45 in morning 🌄 for work in Dublin, a 65min drive, Returning at 18.30 18.45, at 65 yes madness but I know nothing else as work for over 45 years, I have minor health issues, that is my big concern
What I will say to you, if this new drug for Deminita comes on the market, 1 it will be a Premium price, 2 You find it easier obtaining drug in Dublin well you speak the one Language, you know the Irish health system, But hopefully you have family and can use there address,

I was told I can still avail of health services in Ireland re hosp appts etc. Have a great holiday. Plan for the future. If it works it works and if it dosent there are alternatives.
