ok, that makes life easier but also means you should be able to just set up DD's from your Irish bank account without difficulty.

I shud be able to transfer from my bank account straight to wise..I hope. I'll check it out. Thanks for your help.

you will be able to do that but why do you need wise for your DD's if you have an EU Euro current account?

This post is now split between paying utility bills, or buying a property.

Re bills, as previously mentioned, if the OP already has a bank account denominated in euros, the only thing the OP has to do is give the IBAN to the utility companies - no need for any messing about "transferring money to Spain".

Re property purchase - in my (limited) experience, Spanish lawyers etc are still living in the stone age. I tried to arrange to pay using Wise, but they insisted on an (expensive) bankers draft - including cash in brown envelopes. And they still got it wrong!

Cheers

Steve

I'm not sure.  This is all new to us,  never transferred money abroad before.  Lots to learn.  This forum is so helpful.

I paid my lawyers into their client holding account from my currencies direct account. They then transferred to the vendor.

Great. Good to know. So I presume I open a wise account. Notify bank that I will be transferring money. They won't be pleased lol. The interest rates here are deplorable on savings accounts. Might as well use it for our enjoyment 😉

I don’t think you need a Wise account if you have an Irish euro account, i think that suggestion was only made because we thought you were British with a UK sterling bank account that needed transferring into euros (Wise are good for these type of transfers). You will already have euro IBAN with your Irish account and can pay from that directly to spanish utilities/solicitors.
